hey all!
so ive been a lurker for a few months, and have been doing lots of consuming...
i'm finally going to take the plunge and get a 2015 bmw i8.
ive been scouring the country and was wondering what I should be expecting extras wise for a 50K i8?
is there anything I should be looking for on the specs sheet?
I would only really get one from a BMW dealership, and will extend the warranty.
do all cars come with the surround parking and the heads up display? I was under the impression all i8s tend to be specced the same...
thanks for all your help!

Bought an i8 last week for the wife. Aug 2016 car with 9k on the clock. Paid £50k. Happened to come from our local BMW dealer in the end although I was looking nationwide. Was up at £54k but they did a deal to match another similar car with a higher mileage. Know them quite well, bought a few from them, sold them a couple. Plus they service the ones we have currently so think that helped get a chunk off. Sophisto grey with Amido leather. Not sure what's standard but this has hud, internet, 360 cameras, driving assistance, service pack. No HK or comfort access. 3 years warranty, 1 year standard BMW AUC and 2 years with the dealer. That was a good enough deal for me. Think there's plenty of haggling to do with these as the market is pretty limited. I didn't think I'd like it quite as much as I do. It's a lot of fun to drive, wife absolutely loves it. Insurance surprised me though, more than I expected. Still driving it on the 7-day driveaway cover whilst I try and get a better deal. Was cheaper to add an Italian 5.2 V10 to our multi-car policy!

oh my god . this car is beautiful . may i ask which dealership it was? did you just walk in and see it? its a lot cheaper given the mileage than anything on AT. I will try haggling as well. im looking for exactly the same spec as your car basically. congratulations!!

Listers in Kings Lynn. Good guys there, been dealing with them regularly for the last 8 years. Never had a problem. Was looking at one almost identical but in Ionic Silver with 23k on the clock. That was at Soper in Lincoln. This is the one they price matched against. That one has sold now as well I believe. I was actually on my way to show the wife the silver one the weekend before last when I thought I'd better call Listers just to see if anything had come in. Ended up going there instead. Never really given these the appreciation they deserve before. She's always liked the look of them but I would never have considered one. Still can't get over how well they drive.

I didnt want a colour scheme that was too in your face. I cant wait. i'll have a look at your dealership to see what they have in stock, and tell them you sent me!

Huh? You are maybe confusing the I8 (pictures) for the E63 M6?

I suspect he was referring to the car I mentioned. If so, he was right about the noise. Nothing sounds as good as a v10 howling behind you

They are great cars and epic value right now. Bought mine 18 months ago and never regretted it. As has been said, they are fantastic to drive and very versatile. Most will have the extras that you want.

I've had my i8 since new. Awesome car.

Yes, I have the DisplayKey. Very useful and cool, but not essential.

Love mine. Takes you a while to get confidence in car parks (that the doors will allow you in/out) and the car can be annoying when you run out of battery around the town, as the continual restarting of the engine can make progress hesitant (although you can just put it in sport). Also whats with the delay going to e-mode when you may already be in comfort-electric mode - they are both electric drive??? The front end could do with bigger tyres to, as the traction control can be vicious!

But the split personality and the refinement make up for it. They are specc’d pretty much all the same apart from alloys, door sills and comfort opening. The displaykey looks more of a hindrance than a benefit. They not a bit bulky and need charging all the time? Do they do anything in addition to the app on your phone?

Oh, and best familiarise yourself with the location of the petrol filler release cable pull (it needs a good yank) - as if you drain the tank too much it tends not to electrically release the filler cap unless you have a replacement sensor.

The wife's i8 doesn't have the display key. I have one with my 7 series and used it for about a week when I first got the car. Since then it's been sitting indoors. Would rather have had two 'normal' keys to be honest. I went to download the i app but it seems BMW have dropped it. The normal app replicates a display key on your phone which is still available. There's some other features on the i version but don't know for sure what they were. Just know a lot of i3/i8 owners have been moaning that they can only use the normal BMW Connected app. Imo an app makes more sense than having to carry a display key around. At least my phone is always charged.

yikes ok, so ive made the plunge and put a deposit down on a 2015 white i8 with the impulse design package. I couldve paid cash after selling my current car, but agreed to a PCP so I got 2K deposit contribution, then i'll pay the whole amount off in the first month after selling my porker. is my thinking ok? the car's cost is 53K including gap abd autoglym.

Congratulations, you'll love it. If you're happy with the deal that's all that matters. The PCP trick works well, good thinking

DisplayKey is not entirely a gimmick. Plus I have 2 normal keys too, but no longer use those.

App gives you full functionality, BUT it requires the car to have a data connection, which it often will not have e.g. never inside my garage. It's also slow to transmit as it is bounced through BMW's servers.

DisplayKey uses a direct connection, so will work within quite a distance. I mostly use it for preconditioning, or sometimes checking the car's range.
