Hey Guys is LG still the OLED gold standard 55"
Discussion
8K will be some time before you can even get it, so don't worry.
Sony OLED is very good but the price reflects that. It has an LG screen but processing is better. Philips is joining the game but I have not read up on them yet.
QLED is not miles behind but not the gold standard. CLED is not out but sounds so good!

ok so 4k OLED it is, LG or Sony? I've got a Panasonic Viera G20 which was recommended here back in late 2010. Served me well Sony OLED is very good but the price reflects that. It has an LG screen but processing is better. Philips is joining the game but I have not read up on them yet.

I'd go Panasonic oled. https://www.johnlewis.com/panasonic-tx-55fz802b-ol...
I'm just waiting on a bit of building work finishing and then will be getting one of these (Sony AF9):
https://www.johnlewis.com/sony-bravia-kd55af9-oled...
Can be had for sub-2k if you search.
Picture quality is up there with the best, the screen can be used as a speaker which will help logistically and it also runs Android TV so things like Kodi can run natively.

Well timed thread, I have been looking at the Sony Bravia AF8. Appeals for a couple of reasons one of them being the inbuilt sound seems to be suficient for us to bin off the sound bar for day to day use and for proper film stuff gives me an excuse to get a proper surround sound system.
Thoughts?

Best bet is to look over at rtings.com for a review then avforums and read the indepth user feedback though this may be disproportionately skewed by those encountering issues as if people don't they generally don't sign up and post on a forum.
I went with an LG OLED (B8 is currently £999 for 55" and £1500 for 65" in costco) as they supply the actual OLED panels to the rest (Sony, Panasonic, Philips etc...) and so assume LG would invest the most in R&D and picture quality.

I've always gone for Panasonic TV's and after seeing the specifications of the new range for 2019 I don't see any reason to change that habit.
GZ2000 range basically covers all bases....

GZ1500 range only slightly lower spec

There was a comparison of Panasonic, LG and Sony OLED tvs on the gadget show the other week. The Sony came out on top.
It was about 10 mins into episode 1 of the current series of you want to check it out
Maybe it’s a case of normal folk not being about to tell the difference between a fantastic tv and an amazballs tv for 50% more money. Mine is 8 years old and it’s still bloody good. You’ll always get a purist telling you you need 5k spend on cables It was about 10 mins into episode 1 of the current series of you want to check it out

This is exactly what I did at the end of last year. Couldn't be happier with it. Last August I broke the HDMI port on my well liked Pioneer 43 inch plasma so needed a replacement pronto.
After looking at a few brands ended up with a LGB7 55inch. I did not read any reviews beforehand so was pleased it got What Hifi's top recommendation. The LG OLED seemed so much better than LED sets so I increased my budget slightly. Got from richer sounds for about £1k and am a very happy owner - once I got my settings sorted. Stylish, slim and classy like the owner
Really do not think you would be disappointed OP, its a really "involving" TV.
Its often worth checking out previous years models as they offer as serious discount. When I was in Richer Sounds the latest LG equivalent was nearly £2k more. The assistant said the upgrades for the newer TV were only a few minor tweaks. My best mate has just bagged a reference THX Panasonic 65 inch for £1k instead of £8k!
