I've been offered a Black Bay Harrods with box but no papers as a swap for my Black Bay Bronze (the bronze is just too big for my skinny wrists)

The story from the BB Harrods owner is that he was given a second BB Harrods at half price after they lost the papers to the first one.

There's no way I'm doing the deal without getting the BB Harrods authenticated. Watches of Switzerland (and presumably Goldsmiths) in Birmingham can't / won't authenticate the watch, so I was wondering if there's anywhere else in or around Birmingham that might be able to (I assume its a case of taking the back off, checking the movement and serial numbers)

I quite fancy trying the BB Harrods, especially in the knowledge that I can probably flip it for no loss if I don't like it

But aren't they the same size?

No - the Bronze is 43mm and the Harrods is 41mm

I’d be more concerned that it is stolen rather than fake.

I haven’t see any Harrods knock offs (remember they will have a a number engraved on the back).

Given Harrods go for over list it’s odd he doesn’t just sell it and walk in and buy a BBB from stock with money to spare, why settle for a second hand one when you can buy new so easily?

And if he wanted a BBB why not just choose that as his half price model?

I agree - it sounds “unusual”....

Buyer has now said he will sell the Harrods to Watchfinder and pay me cash for my Bronze, so I’m perfectly happy with that (and presumably he will be too,as he will surely have cash left over)

You would be suprised what Watchfinder give him, will be probably a lot less than your both expecting especially as it has no papers. They offered me £1200 for a BNIB Tudor GMT on bracelet.

One option is to take the watch to Harrods itself or Rolex at St James Square.

They offered me £200 under list for my harrods. Others offered £300-£600 more than list.

Also not sure about losing the papers story.

The papers are only the standard Tudor warranty leaflet and card, user guide and a harrods receipt. The receipt could be re printed of harrods needs be.

As there is still a wait list would be amazed if they just pulled one from stock to give him two.

Papers can get lost... I was burgled some years ago and my empty watch boxes were stolen (watches were in a safe). It meant I had several valuable watches without papers or boxes. But I admit it's unusual.

Isn't there a website for verifying Rolex serial numbers? Something like this?

Are you sure a BB will be small enough?

It’s definitely smaller than the bronze (50mm lug to lug, vs 52.6mm) but the height was the main issue for me, and the BB doesn’t lose much, if any

See below for comparison vs your sub

The slab sides of the Tudor make it look worse than it is, the difference is only ~1.7mm

Try one on somewhere? All heritage BB are the same so any colour will do
