Hi Guys, I tend to lurk about but have posted some stuff in the distant past on other areas of the forum when I had a W12 A8 and Jag XKR.

Here goes - I am in the market for a new toy / weekend time machine. Currently have a French Racing Blue Jag XKR-S for the adrenaline fix and Range Rover for the boring daily stuff. The Jag was 1 year old when I bought it and has been totally faultless and reliable over 50K miles (not one single fault). Whilst it is a wonderful machine and the noise is absolutely V8 filthy, it’s time for a change - I'll be sad to see it go.

I was initially looking for something from Aston Martin such as a Vanquish, but then came across a 2015 570S sat on the AM dealership forecourt which caught my eye. I know the Vanquish and 570 are very different, but the 570 brought back memories of my bedroom wall plastered with supercars from the 70’s and 80's (I am 51 next week). Also, most people I know who drive Aston Martins are accountants or solicitors - no offence intended - I am neither of those.

So, visited Rybrook in Bristol and took this one for a test drive > https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Well, bugger me, the car was f'ing awesome! I got up to an incredible speed (illegal) within 10 seconds at full throttle (those that know, will know). I have never experienced acceleration like that. I was laughing so much at what had just happened – I am still grinning. I thought the XKR-S was fast, but the 570 is in a different league. Steering and handling is awesome, as is the Batman / bedroom poster looks of the car (particularly with the doors open). The photos don't do the colour any justice. It contrasts so well with all the carbon and the black roof, showing off all the curves and architecture. I was blown away by the handling!

As this is the McLaren section of Pistonheads, I thought I would look to its well-informed members for any pre-purchase advice. My intention is to do the deal by the end of the month. Not necessarily that car, but it is very nice, so I could be tempted. My budget is £150K.

Has anyone fitted a Novitec blade spoiler?

I’m not a Porsche or Ferrari bloke – they do nothing for me – I like to be different.

Opinions good and bad welcome. Thank you.

Are you an accountant? I didn't mean to offend.

Welcome, the car itself looks superb. Very unique colour.

Spec wise it seems to have all the essentials for me - vehicle lift, security pack, sport exhaust, alcantara. A few nice options aswell including the B&O, soft close doors.. In fact, its very well spec'd IMO.

Mileage is good, maybe slightly higher than others but personally I think thats a good thing. There is a fair chance the car has been run in now, and any new car niggles ironed out. Looks a great buy.

If big depreciation is not an issue (well Jag I guess was even worse) then go for it.

I’ve driven it and it’s very fast, but sound and low speed engagement was lacking a bit compared to my Cayman GTS (!).

Still torned between GT4/3 and this, it’s a stunning machine anyway!

Jag was new £103K. Purchased by me at 12 months old for £60K. Part-ex against 570 @ £35K - Ouch!

Out of interest when did you drive it? Interesting to know how long it has been advertised.

First of all, I'm a qualified accountant (but don't work as one) and have ordered an Aston Martin, so am deeply offended :P

Secondly congratulations on your choice. That's an awesome car!

At your budget, take a look at a 570S Spider too. Unlike Ferarris etc, it is uncompromised by being a convertible.

And forget about adding aftermarket aero junk. Usually just adds weight and deteriorates the aero and balance.

Make no mistake these are awesome cars, years ahead of the competition.

Its coming up to a year of ownership for me (570 Spider) & I still find every journey a special occasion.

Its the first car I get a genuine frisson of excitement from seeing the garage doors open, a feeling only reinforced by slipping into the superb driving position & setting off with a rye smile on my face.

The steering is sublime, chassis rigidity different class to anything else out there (you can 100% feel this when pressing on) superb turn in & a light tippy toe agile feel.

Its just a fabulously well thought out car designed by people that clearly understand what a driver wants & needs to feel connected & happy behind the wheel.

The all-round visibility is outstanding with low scuttle line enabling you to place the car really well, it seems to shrink around you on the road. Practicality wise it has a furnace like heater (was out roof down this morning at 4c no problem at all) cracking stereo (upgraded jobbie) comfortable, practical, economical & thus far (3500 miles in) super reliable too.

Get it bought!

I’m not the normal aftermarket addition type, but I’ve fitted the Novitec rear wing. It’s functional and the carbon blade weighs next to nothing. I added it mostly for aesthetics but it won’t ruin the dynamics of the car if you do. Personal preference whether it adds or detracts from the looks of the car I guess. As for the car itself, it’s briliant.

Thanks for all the advice guys. However, having seen the 720s, I am unable to resist it so have shook hands on this earlier today. Should be picking it up at the end of the month > https://www.rybrook.co.uk/approved-used-cars/vehic...
