Replacing my Mk2 MX-5

I currently own a 04 plate (NB) 1.8 litre MX-5, I genuinely love driving the car, it's been my first convertible and compliments quite nicely my Volvo V60 daily driver.

Sadly it's having an MOT on Monday and I fear some big bills coming due to rust, coupled with the bodywork damage it has on the drivers side, front wing, door and rear wing where I slid off Oulton Park track and hit a tyre wall on a rainy day in February realistically it's not going to be worth putting money into to repair.

In anticipation I write the car off I'm going to be looking for a replacement, I enjoy the basic formula of the MX-5 so 2 seater convertible and rear wheel drive and I'm thinking of a budget of around 3.5k.

My main options so far are a Mk3 MX-5 as they are slightly bigger therefore more comfortable for me at 6ft 4 over longer distance and a BMW Z4, probably a 3 litre version but hard to find with that engine in my budget. Any other options I may have missed?

MR-2 is a possibility, I have previously driven the Mk3 version and I seem to remember liking it, although it was a long time ago.

MG's don't appeal to be honest
