I have a Porsche Macan and the Porsche warranty is about to expire
I have had other Porsche before and found them very reliable I have also had an Aston Martin DB7 and really needed a warranty It was the most unreliable car ever

Does anyone have any comments about the value of renewing the warranty on a 2/3 year old Macan with 32,000 miles on the clock?

Never owned a Porsche and subsequently never purchased Porsche extended warranty but from what I've heard it is held in the same (if not better) regard to BMW extended warranty. Definitely worth taking out in my opinion, doubt it'll be much more than a third party warranty...

If unexpected costs are a concern, then take out the Porsche official extended warranty.

Otherwise, keep a cash reserve put by in case anything goes wrong. As with all warranties, they are basically an insurance policy. Insurance yourself if the unexpected cost would be a problem, or if you think it's likely to have a fault.

My BMW i3 (which is relatively reliable) just threw up at c.£6k bill! This month im pleased I've got warranty because no amount of £110 per months would of covered that bill or any subsequent.

What went? At that price sounds like the Charger?

Alternative is a service plan from someone like Hartech. If something were to go wrong you only pay the price of the parts required iirc.

There's a certain M5 owner on here would almost certainly steer you towards an manufacturer's warranty or a cash pot.

can't speak exactly for macan - but can for other porsches. have had a few and have two currently - both under extended warranty. I recommend it.
the reason is that against the warranty cost, the cost difference of replacement of any significant component is huge. ie. new engine - 15k+, new pdk gearbox 10k+, electronics/nav component failure - 5k etc. versus the cost of the warranty of around 1k a year for mine - just makes financial sense. Yes my cars have been reliable, but in the situation where something big fails - I'd be looking at a cost equivalent to around 10 years of warranty payments maybe more or maybe a bit less. and things definitely do go wrong, so I'd have the warranty.

Porsche official extended warranty has saved me thousands in the past including installing a new PDK gearbox when the old one failed. By all means take the risk if you are feeling lucky, but in my experience I have been very glad to have it.

The electrical motors gearbox developed a leak which killed the electrical motor. The issue with the gearbox couldn't be resolved by a single part so I ended up with a while new motor and gearbox. In addition to the 6k there was a £2.4k bill from enterprise for the rental.

Clearly they (BMW) doesn't charge itself out at £108 an hour nor do they pay the full daily rate of £80 for my car. But I'm sure it will still of sting the balance sheet this month. Fyi it took 3 1/2 weeks and BMW couldn't of been better about the whole situation.

As I say i3s aren't perfect but they are pretty robust as they've been in build for 6 years now.

Thanks for the feed back. To be honest I believe that self insurance is the best but my experience with the Aston has made me feel negative. And we have downsized to one car. At £1000 or so per annum the Porsche extended warranty is expensive. Yes the parts are expensive but in the past I haven’t needed them......

I have a macan DS, brought it when it was a year old and 9k on the clock, been under warranty in the near 3 years i have owned in and in the last 12 months, its had a new pdk gearbox, new steering system (power steering failed), new ACC camera, new panoramic roof cassette.
I dread to think of the costs if no warranty was in place.

I shall be renewing mine next month smile

No bin it and buy a new one as they are very cheap compared to repairing a porsche of any type.

I'd get the warranty, I've had no end of problems with Porsches yet the MK7/7.5 VWs I own tick on without a problem at many times the mileage.

I handed my Macan GTS back after 2 months of ownership from new as I no longer had confidence in it due to all the problems which included a failure of the gearbox pulling on to a motorway, nearly had a Volvo truck remodel the rear of the GTS. GT4 in for new gearbox as part of recall. The dealership has been unapologetic and treated all the problems as routine ownership.

As the most unreliable car I've owned, I can testify that the warranty is superb but costly and forces you to only use Porsche parts.

Put non Porsche brake pads on? Oh your coil pack has broken but we won't honour the warranty due to the non-porsche brake pad

Also speaking from Personal Experience, I think it's bonkers to have a "new" Porsche and not keep the [Extended] Porsche Warranty.. Yes it is a little extortionate, until you call on it to dig you out of a very big Two Scored Cylinders^ sized^^ hole..

Can you say a bit more about the scoring? Mileage, gearbox, servicing, use etc? I thought cylinder scoring wasn’t something that happened in the 997.2.
