About to order as part of a rebuild, any brands particularly good for this?

Can’t say I could ever tell a difference between any coolant. They all just work.

Will it need to be silicate as opposed to OAT for a bike that age?

Unlikely. The Japanese manufactures don’t like HOAT.

Not that I know a great deal about it but I’m tempted by the Prestone offering. Says it covers all bases and has a long service life.

Avoid the waterless stuff and you’ll be fine.

Will it ever actually see freezing conditions? If not I'd use tapwater and a sprinkle of water wetter.

Distilled water might be nicer than tap water as (depending on region) it might be full of dissolved minerals - limescale etc.

I used water wetter when racing as it brought the temp down, was cleared by Bemsee and (allegedly) gave the water pump some lubrication.

Road bike - spend a couple of quid on coolant surely? It might get a bit chilly in your garage as well.

It’s not just antifreeze though. Anti corrosion is at least as important.

Distilled water has a tendency to go acidic.

I used Halfords pink, ready mixed Anti Freez in both my old 92 and 93 and a 98 FireBlades, plus other bikes and cars ( TVR ) and no problems.

Cheers for the replies all. This bike doesn't go out if I so much as smell damp in the air, never mind freezing temps. It's just to help prevent corrosion as much as anything else.
