MOT on Car - picking up Saturday

Hi,

Im picking up a car tomorrow and i told the garage i wanted a years MOT on it (as its first MOT is due in Nov) - ive just checked the MOT checking site and its been done; however there is one advisory - o/s/f tyre bald inner edge

Do i just accept that and bear in mind during the next 12 months or should i expect them to replace the tyre? Its a 66 plate car from a main dealer.

I'd be asking for a new tyre and also a full alignment to be done.

I'd definitely want to know why a 3 year old car was wearing out the inside of a tyre.......

Tyre "close to legal limit" - negotiating point for new tyre or price reduction

Tyre bald - pretty sure the rules are that you have to have visible tread across all of the tyre and 1.6mm across X% (75%?). Therefore it's illegal to drive and you should insist on a replacement before you drive it away. In the unlikely event you're stopped with a tyre like that it's a fine and 3 points.

I think the wording is strange - it must be legal as it passed the MOT; its listed as an advisory.

Been in touch and garage agreed to have a look at tracking and replace the tyre. Expected and argument but didn't get one!

Good result but make sure you look at the other tyres too, especially the one on the other side as there is a high probability that's worn on the inner edge too and to be honest I would prefer to have a pair of new tyres rather than one new and one near end of life.

LOL you should see the nasty £68 tyres on the front of my car! Front and rear have lots of tread but once they get low the whole set are coming off for Eagle 3.

... ^^ and that's exactly why I would have kept quiet, driven away and bought myself a new tyre.

A new but crap tyre is marginally better than old part bald one.
