Hi biker dudes
Im 15 now, with my 16th coming up on the 7th of August. My dad wants to buy me a 50cc bike/scooter to get around on, and being very image concious (no offence to scooter riders) I wont be seen dead on a scooter, escecially a 50cc. I will have it derestriced once I've passed my test and a decent exhaust put on to give me a bit more power, but does anyone know of any good 50cc bikes (that actually look like bikes)?

The main reason my dad doesn't want to get me a bike is becuase they apparently dont hold their value as well as scooters and are harder to sell on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and if possible could you also post a link to a picture of the bike/s?

Thanks dudes

(Can't to wait to )

I know gilera do one, not sure of the model though. Doesn't look too bad in a diet-bike kinda way!

Not sure what type of bike you are after but a mate of mine had one of these years ago www.derbi.com/eng/senda/senda-caract.htm
Although i dont know where you would get one from as not many people know who they are!

On the other hand there are a few manufacturers that will do a sports type of bike in 50cc form so just search around.

Do what I did- buy a knackered old Yamaha FS1SE (like a Fizzy but with long forks) for 60 quid, then hit a pothole flat out at 30mph. Go over the handle bars and knock yourself out. Here comes the tricky bit, make sure there's a celebrity coming the other way (I chose Gary Mallet, the old window cleaner from Coronation Street). Get them to pick you up, dust you down etc then no matter how cool your mates bike is, you'll always have the best sory to tell.

Then again, might be easier to buy an RS50.......

Thanks for the replies

I like the looks of the Motorhispania RX-5o and the aprilia RS-50, but does anyone know anything about resale values for these bikes?

Oh, and srob, nice idea but knowing my luck I'd hit the celebrity and end up killing them and have a huge lawsuit on my hands...or end up just looking like a total fool...

Look around on Biketrader and see what sort of prices they are going for second hand. Most of these bikes are aimed at the first rider so tend to be cheap to begin with so i would imagine second hand values are not going to fall that much unless the bike has been neglected.
Maybe you should consider a used bike if your worried about depreciation?

those three can be picked up for between 900 and 1200 quid (cagiva mito looks better than in that pic)

I want one now!
Thanks for all the advice, I've been looking around at the bikes you suggested and they all look great - apparently MCN had an article on a comparison of 50cc bikes, but I can't find it anywhere on the web. If anyone has it could you possibly scan it in and send it to me?

Can't wait till august now!

I'll finally have some freedom!
