2019 Ford Mustang GT
Discussion
Following on from this thread, I think the new car deserves its own....
For those that didn't know, in September last year I bought a new (pre-facelift) Mustang, but that met a premature demise into the side of a wayward Renault Clio.
On Saturday I went to collect the replacement... A 2019 Mustang GT Fastback (5.0 manual) in Velocity Blue, with the custom pack two and a the factory fit rear spoiler.

The 2019 car is a totally different creature to the 2017-spec car I had before, even in the short time I've had it, some huge differences have become apparent.
First of all of course, there is the exterior. The two pronounced triangular ridges that ran up the bonnet are now gone, the front is now much flatter with a more rounded nose, and two air vents in the bonnet. The (now LED) headlights are slimmer, and the more angular bumper now just has a single LED light bar and indicator. The grill is finished in gloss black, as opposed to normal black plastic. The best bit though by far is that the tri-bars in the headlights now illuminate, and are the cars DRL's.
The side profile is much the same, but at the rear there are changes again. The tail lights are now slightly more convex, there are four tail pipes, and the bumper and diffuser have had a tweak. There is of course also the optional boot spoiler.
Overall, the new velocity blue colour, with the black wheels and spoiler give a much more aggressive look over my old car. This new one hasn't been specc'd with chrome window surrounds, so it's literally all blue and black, with the only chrome being the Mustang Pony badge and the wheel studs.
Inside has had a bit of an overhaul as well... The dash panel is now in a brushed aluminium effect, the steering wheel rim is finished in a beautiful soft leather, and the centre console around the gear stick is also leather wrapped. The screen on the dash remains the same as before, but now supports gesture control (pinch/swipe), and the retro round rev counter and speedo have gone with an LCD screen taking their place. The steering wheel has gained extra buttons to control said screen, and a 'Pony' button to control the new active exhaust.
Extra kit? Well there's now lane departure control, radar guided cruise control, collision avoidance (hopefully not ever called upon), and the sound system has been upgraded to a B&O 12-speaker 1000W system that is bloody fantastic.
Retail price on this car is now around five grand more than the last one, but the extra kit and higher level of fit and finish more than make up for it. Just the fact that it now comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres as opposed to the old standard Pirellis is worth a grand alone.
Enough talk, lets drive it...
Jump in, grab the new soft leather steering wheel, and prod the starter button. The new active exhaust barks as the engine fires - a neighbour friendly quiet start mode is available. Flick the mode switch into Sports+, then on the steering wheel set the exhaust to 'Race Track' for maximum burble and the occasional overrun pop and go... The car also now blips the throttle for you on downshifts to rev match.
What can I say... More noise, more power (now up to 450PS or 444bhp), more grip from the tyres, and a seemingly more compliant ride on the standard suspension. Love it.
What have I done so far? Well I fitted my custom gear knob Saturday night, and also put my spare wheel in the boot... Then Sunday I headed up to the Fairmile in Cobham where the Surrey Mustang Owners Club meet once a month.
Big Easter weekend coming up, so looking forward to getting out and about... If you're in or around Farnborough, keep an eye out.

Love it. Pretty jealous.
Sadly the base cost is beyond what I would ever consider for a car, but the extra kit is good and working DRLs
The £33k I paid for mine back in 2015 was such a bargain. Why did I ever sell it?
Moved back to London didn't I.
I hope the radar system has the special Clio avoidance upgrade.

i'm really pleased that the new car is such a marked difference for you, i know you were gutted about your old one so its good to see that you clearly consider this one an upgrade.
It is a definite step up in all areas.I think as soon as it was apparent that the old one would not be coming back, this was really the only solution. I was just lucky to find this car that was going to be available so quickly!
That looks awesome!! The colour of your last one looked good, but this looks much, much better IMO.
Oh, and when you say this...

And...
“WATCH OUT YOU BLITHERING IDIOT!!!”
Hope your journey with this one is much longer and peaceful, save for that V8

I assume you mean both:

Great news OP!
I went through that junction twice today, and was on heightened Clio alert!
If you see a BMW flashing lights at you or the driver waving it may be me as I live a couple of miles away!
RWD N/A petrol is the only way to go IMO, but mine are straight 6s - one day I'll have a V8 though.

How much better/different is it to drive compared to the old version?
It's odd to describe really, as it's essentially the same to drive as the old one, just with everything turned up a bit. A bit more power, more noise, a more pleasant cabin, and better tyres. I guess it'd be a bit like listening to your favourite album on an 80s Walkman, and then on a new Bose top notch sound system. It's essentially the same, but one is clearly an improvement.

Congrats on the new Mustang, glad you decided to stick with the brand. Interesting to hear your thoughts on the new model vs older version. Keep meaning to go for a test drive in a newer one to see if it's worth the extra cash!
I wouldn't have changed if I hadn't has to, I was more than happy with my Grabber Blue... But as my hand has been forced somewhat, its nice to be able to do a direct comparison.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
