I converted my car from a top mount intercooler to a charge cooler. Part of this conversion meant I had to move the air filter. I used a flexible wire silicone hose which was ideal, but the car now has a loud turbo whistle from half to full boost.

Any ideas how I can make quieter? Some sort of wrap for the air filter hose maybe?

Your description of the hose sounds like the type with spiral wound wire in a thin wall pipe. If so then perhaps replacing with 3mm thick silicon pipe and ali sections would be better.

That's exactly what I have. I think in the long run I may change to silicone hose, but the flexible stuff is very easy to route. I was hoping for some sort of wrap. Even if it doesn't solve the problem completely, at least I'll know what's causing the noise.

That thin wall wired hose has a rough internal surface which won't flow well. Fine as a quick test while you sort out the replacement, but you want shot of it as soon as possible. Think of the turbo wine as your reminder that you haven't finished the job yet.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'll get it swapped over asap.

Thanks very much for finding me more work wink

It's a reference to the over zealous PH admin getting rid of subjects and people they don't like.

Does anyone hear jackboots striding across cobbles? Or just a funny turbo noise?

Many years ago when I ran my turbo mini with a filter on the end of a rather long induction pipe....it made some very loud noises.

Re-routing via a shorter pipe into a proper airbox/filter, made all those noises disappear.

SO a length of hose can affect noise...but ultimately for quiet...a proper airbox with an OEM type paper filter is always best.
