A friend of mine has just got her fourth NIP for speeding.... "Oh my god I'm about to lose my job, my home and everything....."

Calm down dear, it's only a Gatso.... Sell em to your mum. "Oh can I do that"? was her reply..... Well, not legally, but everyone does it, they won't ask questions.

Now I know my advice isn't strictly within the law ;) but does anyone think there'll be any comeback? I'm prepared to bet £60 and three points that there won't!

At the end of the day, it's worth the risk to save her home

Sorry scammers, but this is how things work these days.

[small]Usual advice about checking NIP dates, postage, pepipoo given etc.[/small]

Why would they care if they get the £60 - job done as far as they are concerned.

It is only about the money, as we all know.
So aslong as they get their sixty notes from someone thats their only concern.
So yes go for it and feel good about it.

I'll probably get loads of abuse for this but what the hell.

After the first three NIP's didn't said friend think about slowing down, even temporarily, or try and be more observant.

On a legal point it's attempting to pervert the course of justice, if it mostly suceeds it is perverting the course of justice.

If it does works. it'll be a minor victory over the whole dammed scamera issue.

If it fails, and she is convicted, mucho fine and possible spell in HMP, there'll be tears before bedtime.........

I can't help but agree.

I can't see how it could fail to work.

There has been at least one thread on here concerning off-loading points, and the conjecture that quite a few of the older generation have oddly collected a high percentage of speeding points, depite not being behind the wheel for some years.
And as pointed out above, as long as the points reach a UK licence, and the cash is handed over in fines, everyone is satisfied, if not actually happy.

The urban myth concerning the students accepting your points for cash is apparently just that, (a myth)since the last volunteer on E-bay changed his mind.

If there were suspsicions over the statement of the driver of said vehicle, things could get very sticky if they decided to check if the mother was insured to drive the car...

As I understood by word of mouth,
as long as you dont' atttempt to wriggle out of it by claiming your cousin from Nairobi was behind the wheel on holiday at the time, and that fine is paid, and UK licence proffered, its pretty much settled

what do I know !

Can I suggest that should the local plod look into the matter that the "alibi" is watertight? If Mum couldn't have been driving - and this is straightforward to establish - then the risk is a few months in jail, I fear.

There again - should it be completely plausible that Mum was driving - perhaps the two of them were on a day out together - and this could be corroborated should anyone ask - well it would be very hard to prove anything, wouldn't it!

I'd be very wary of going down this route, myself.

Wary, but what's the alternative? Lose her job?

Mother and daughter look the same from behind and as it's a Gatso that's good enough. They do spend quite a bit of time together, and a girlie shopping trip would easily cover the reasons.

It's about risk/reward. IMO the chances of being caught are extremely remote and it saves her job.

If I was in that situation I know I would do it

The alternative.... No job, no home. Is that fair punishment for a victimless crime? We already know the answer to that.

There have been people caught doing this. They need to keep it quiet, they've discussed it with you - who else?
Is your friend the registered keeper - there was a case like this where a guy's company realised what he'd done and reported him?
If I where the DVLA, I'd be looking carefully at drivers who had 9 points and got another NIP (there's no suggestion they do this, though).
She needs to be *very* careful in future - how long is she on 9 pts for?
