Vehicle stored for 30 years

I have had an old motorbike sitting at the back of the garage for 30 years, last taxed and used in 1988. In all reality I forgot it was there as it gathered dust and disappeared under boxes etc. I want to clear some space and its time for the bike to go.

I'm not sure where the V5 is but I have moved house since the bike has been unused and off road so in all probability I haven't even updated the ownership details. I want to get rid of the bike but clearly I have a problem. I can apply for a new V5 however the bike has been stuck in the back of the garage and forgotten about since 88 - never SORN albeit those Regs didn't apply then. Not quite sure how to go forward. If I apply for a new V5 I'm may get fined for never declaring the bike SORN.

The bikes a non runner so the fine may be more than the bike is worth. Anyone on here had a similar issue with a garage find for example?

I guess worse case the bike goes back in the corner of the garage for another 30 years until it becomes the families problem after I'm pushing up daisies.

Any useful advice welcomed.

Wouldn’t worry about the SORN. Just apply for another V5 and all should be fine.

Honda CX 500? If so just put a new battery in it and off it will go. Not very well but it never did. Great bike.

I'm pretty certain you took it off the road before SORN came in. So as it predates SORN there is no fine.

If it's a CX500 leave it where it is and build another wall in the garage to hide it behind so you never have to set eyes on it again

What bike is it? It’s a Honda 250N.

I didn’t think it was worth anything but I’ve done some research and got a surprise, it is worth more than the £100 I expected.

One of my bikes was like that, bought it off a mate, hadn't been on the road for years, in fact although there was a logbook, it was an older style (first of the modern blue type, not the old green one!) I applied with a covering letter explaining the circumstances & that I would like to keep the original document if possible as it had belonged to my mates deceased brother & it had great sentimental value, the new V5C arrived along with the original, the only strange thing was the tax class which was "unlicensed" apparently that's for vehicles which have been "off road" pre SORN system.
