My sister has two kids. My wife's sister has two kids. What are those pairs of kids to each other? Second cousins?

I've looked on the internet, and all I can find is diagrams about siblings, but none about spouses.

I don’t think they are any type of cousin.

Oh. What with all the seconds, thirds, once removeds, twice removeds and all that, I assumed they must be something

Your sisters kids are your nieces/nephews, your wife's sisters kids are your wife's nieces/nephews, not yours, as you're not technically related.

(unless your wife is also your sister of course) whistle

1. That makes no sense. According to that, my wife's nieces and nephews have no uncle, and mine have no aunt.
2. It's not what I asked. I asked what relation the kids are to each other

This is one of those things that makes my brain hurt.

Thank you for for entering, though. biggrinwink

Even if vaguely related that answer is always "no, you can't do that with them. ...."

There is no common ancestry. There is no blood relationship, which is required to be cousins.

So they really are no relation at all?

And for those that with their minds in the gutter, my niece is beautiful and intelligent and my nephew is famous and successful. My wife's niece looks like a troll and her nephew eats bogeys and lives in a bin. Plus, they've never met.

Thinking about it, the only way your sisters kids could be related to your wife's sisters kids, is if you had a kid with your wife's sister.

From the thread title, I thought there'd be a lot more banjo's involved.

Thread fails to deliver.

A second cousin is if your first cousin has a child, is it not?

First / second / third is across the family tree
Removed is up or down

Your first cousin is someone you only share a grandparent with
Your first cousin's children are your first cousins once removed
Your second cousin is someone you only share a great grandparent with.

Your spouse's parents and siblings are fathers or mothers or sisters or brothers-in-law, so I suppose really their offspring should be nieces or nephews-in-law.

Anyway, we need pictures of the OP's wife and sister in order to pass judgement. And details of their cars.

I've always found the cousin thing 100% uncompelling.

If someone tracked me down and told me I was their 3rd cousin twice removed I'd still feel more kinship with the bloke who carried my fries to the table at McDonald's last October.
