Got the other half a 1989 Datejust for her 30th last month. 18k 26mm on a president bracelet with bark effect (very 80s - in a man's size it would look like something Gordon Gecko would have worn wink )

Having removed all the links with screw in pain, it is still a tiny bit loose. It seems that you can remove the permanent links (although they are trashed in the process) but I have only seen it done by........ people on the Internet with a pair of pliers or.........Rolex themselves for big bucks and a long wait.

Is this the sort of job any decent jeweller should be able to tackle - and any suggestions in the south-east for such a master craftsman! (close to Reading would be good but happy to travel for a decent job)

I've shortened a replica "Rolex" stainless bracelet by cutting a link off with a hacksaw. The hole where the rivet went needed opening up slightly to fit the screw.

I would have thought that any jeweller with an in-house workshop would be able to do this for you, maybe for a percentage of the gold value of the trashed link.
