S&S ISA - is this right?
Discussion
I'm thinking of starting a stocks and shares ISA, with both a lump sum and monthly savings, but If i'm honest it almost seems too good to be true.
Firstly, I know all funds haven't had the success that this one has but I'm just using this as an example to make sure my sums are correct.

If I started with £20,000 5 years ago and didnt add anything extra each month am I right in saying I would now £50,768.41
Opening Balance £20,000.00
Management Charge 0.45%
Fund Managers Charge 0.00%
Net on going charge 0.95%
Initial Charge 0.00%

I like how you edited out your comment suggesting that 0.45% of £20k should have been £900 instead of £90 Mr Pointy
A finger slip on the calculator & then I looked at the post & did an engineeering approximation of 1% of £20k & realised it couldn't be right. The figures in the OPs table are still wrong though as the charges seem to be constant not increasing.
OP: if you are really taken with Fundsmith you can save on charges by going direct:
https://www.fundsmith.co.uk/
However you miss out on being able to move to the funds as you can if you are using a platform like HL (there re others as well). There have been a number of posts on this forum about Fundsmith so try a search for them.

You are correct, my spreadsheet had an error, the net ongoing charge wasn't using the new value, but in reality it has a fairly insignificant impact:OP: if you are really taken with Fundsmith you can save on charges by going direct:

I've looked at other funds and there are plenty that come out at £30,000 - £40,000 over a 5 year period.
So in summary I'm not missing anything then? Just that fund is a very successful one historically which was probably a bad example to use.
