Jewellery Insurance
Discussion
A recent acquisition for wifey seems to be above the limit set by our household insurers and they have stated that they wont insure it, even for an additional premium (it's a big name insurer so I was a little surprised!). Wifey wants to be able to wear it when we go away and not worry about it when we are at home. Any experts here who know what might be my best move? There are plenty of specialist jewellery insurers but I haven't heard of any of them so have no idea which way to turn.
Many thanks for your ideas/recommendations.

I havent heard of this as a problem before.
Most insurers give unspecified cover for jewellery up to a certain figure, typically £2000-£4000. anything above that needs to be specified with a description, it would be a good idea to provide the receipt and a photograph of the item. If you cannot provide a receipt you may have difficulty for high value items.
Phone again, say if they wont provide cover then you would like the reasons why in writing as you may be making a complaint.

Thanks for the varied responses. I am going to transfer my home insurance to another firm I think. I don't think a safe will cover wanting to wear the item whilst abroad. The current insurers wont insure it and there is no real reason to complain as it wont change anything, other than my blood pressure. I shall just need to do some research and see what I can come up with.
Thanks all!
Thanks all!
My current insurers cover individual items both at home and when taken away from home. This item is more than £3k north of the level of individual item cover and now that I have told them about it they will not cover it, even up to the level of an individual items and even though it is less than the certified valuation - which is not what I paid for it!
As a result I shall have to move my insurance elsewhere. There is absolutely nothing I can do about it.
