Right - I do about 18k PA.

I am sick of four pot diesels having ran a Passat estate (2013) for the last 18months. The car needs new rear brakes, dmf judders a bit and generally for an 80k car is time to spend or cut loose.

My budget is up to 15k usually. But I have been drawn towards 330d tourers as a viable option. However for the money I am looking at early 2013 models, for around 16k.

Are there any alternatives - am I likely to continue to pick up massive depreciation if I keep it 3 yrs? Factoring in I don’t think they were euro6 until 2015.

How about a C or E350 CDI?

Audi A6 Avant TDi pops up when I play with filters on AT:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Six-cylinder engine, but might be a couple of different states of tune? That ad says 268bhp but there's another one listed with 215bhp.

Some of the Volvos are 5-cylinder, with different states of tune:

XC70 D4 and D5

V70 D5

Or you could stay with 4-pot but go Jaaaaaag (XF 2.2)
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Or stay Passat but go 4.0 W8 petrol and throw your money out the window on fuel:

Leftfield option could be a flat-four Legacy Spec B:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

or 333bhp S4 Avant
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Could get into a 5-series (albeit petrol):

Or a 3.0 V6 diesel XF (but not sure of emissions standard of it):

All of that said, it looks like the 2015 330Ds do drop below £15k:

Good suggestions!

My shortlist just now is a bmw approved 330d tourer (17k).

A Mercedes c350cdi estate - bit hard to find but seem good value in terms of performance etc

I considered audi but the a4 is tight in back and I feel the a6 is too big!

Jag and option but I ideally wanted a 6 pot

Went to look at this 2015 330d msport tourer.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Its just under £18k but has a very good spec including the adaptive suspension which is a crucial option for me on the m sport.
Looks in very good condition from a cursory glance, first time I've driven a F31 but just could't get on with the electric power steering.
Decided to keep my E91 2009 E91 325d SE -but lwould have thought you could get a 2014 good spec car for your £17k. Been looking for a few months and noticed a lot more coming onto market in the last few weeks.

The 330d estate is a good car so possibly the best option.

It's not a wagon, but is the 5 series GT worth a look?

There is a 6 pot as mentioned above and in two flavours (240 & 270bhp) but it's Euro5. Great handling and brilliant sound system though.

This or an E350CDI if you need even more space.

It was a car I originally recommended to a friend who was looking at a 330d about 6 months ago, ended up buying a 335d.....now has a 350CDI!
In his words it is a better car in every way - better interior, better ride, smoother engine/gearbox combo, more spec, more space and crucially better suited to his needs of a 60 mile commute + family hauling + mountain bikes.

cheers,

Chris
