Does anyone know the type and size of cable used for the VDO electronic speedometer? It appears to be a very thin braided (screened) cable.

The screen must only be earthed at one end. Normally this is at the gauge.

Thanks for that Steve. I’m having problems with an erratic speedo. It seems to have started when I installed my efi, so think it may be some kind of electrical interference. I’m going to run another screened cable away from possible sources of interference to see if that cures it, if not I’ll try a new sender.

Is the sensor for the speedo inductive or Hall effect, I think it’s inductive. My speedo problem is not the sensor, since the needle swings about all over the place even when stationary and especially when blipping the throttle. I’m going to re-route the cable to hopefully avoid any interference from my recently installed efi, since this problem has only arisen since the efi installation. Does that seem logical?

Sounds very logical to me, but what do I know :roll eyes:

New screened cable (thanks Steve) installed, routed well away from all efi cables, problem solved.
