First sightings

Of all the strange combinations, I saw Dire Straits on their first tour in Jan 1978 supporting Talking Heads.

Right out of context, the class showed and they still got two encores.

I saw them twice again, the second time being a pub gig in Leeds, the FForde Green, just as Sultans was hitting the charts.

I always thought Dire Straits were a bit out of context on the Hope and Anchor Front Row Festival album, which was more punk and pub rock. Probably not as far out as Steel Pulse though, on reflection.

In spring 1967 Jimi Hendrix toured supporting the Walker Brother, Cat Stevens and Engelbert Humperdinck.

When Hendrix played at Newbury Plaza February 10th 1967 the poster for the event had a pic at the top of... James Brown!
Can't remember why, but he certainly wasn't on with them.
