It’s 428km via the main Peage route so easily do-able in a tank depending on your car (not in mine).

Depending on the GBP/EURO exchange rate it may be cheaper to buy Froggie juice, especially if you don't pay inflated autoroute prices.

Is cost of the fuel the issue of fear of using french filling stations, not sure why OP asks the question.

Yes, well one tank of diesel. Volvo S60 D5.

Another year I took my M5 and needed 3 tanks for the return journey.

even paying Supermarket prices at the current exchange rates ( diesel @ 1.5 eu, petrol 1.6 eu ) there is no longer the argument to fill up in France well as said apart from Autoroute prices
UK supermarkets diesel is roughly £1.27-30 ish?

Do you not just fill up when you need fuel?

I can do from Northants to LeMans via Dieppe without stopping for fuel, but that's down to the massive 100+ litre tank in the W140 S Class

There is currently negligible price difference in Supermarket prices, so yes, just fill up as and when you need it, if the price looks about right.

If you are going on to Spain, then Diesel can be as little as €1:23 there.

Depends. If you're going the main Calais Peage route like we normally do and you're taking something with older hoses (no ethanol) and needs high octane, you're stuck with Shell for V-Power.

(from memory) You can brim it in Calais and then there are four that are really accessible French side: about 30 mins in; about 70 mins in; just north of Rouen; and just after Rouen. The last one is just out the other side of Rouen and there's a 170ml stint down to LM. The nearest Shell to Le Mans is about 1hr away (West or East). There's nothing whatsoever if you're doing the Caen route.

For my car (300ml tank) I wait until Monday morning and throw about €50 of super in at Carrefour then brim it again in Rouen.

Taking the 850R this year which has a thirst for jungle juice, 25-30 mpg at most driving like miss daisy, it gets fuel when we need it, not sure why people get so hung up about it, surely can't be trying to penny pinch on a trip to the 24h, brim it English side and see how far we get!! Smiles per miles even in an old volvo

I agree, you are not going to save a lot.
