Fancied the Z4M roadster still i found out there near £600 a year tax!
Test drove a S2000 a few years ago and dident like it.
The Alfa is to much like the mg roadster i already have.
Elise i like the idea but for my budget not the Rover engine cars
VX220 not really my thing.
Caterham garage space could be a problem,
Merc could be an option know nothing about them atm,
As you can see im bit of a fussy fooker

I think the Merc will be in the top tax bracket with the Z4M. Having been in your position I would consider looking past the tax bracket - the difference between the top and a middling bracket is £2-300 a year. In the grand scheme of things that’s not a huge marginal cost (equivelant to a few tanks of fuel), and it opens the door to some of the (hopefully) flatter depreciating cars.
If it is a hard rule I’d be in the Elise/VX camp which adds lightness to the mix to get some performance. I had a VX 2.2 and it was a great car, but a fairly flat engine for my preferences. I’d lean towards a zingier Elise if going back into that type of car.

The higher tax bracket witch the Z4m is in jumped up £40 in the last budget, So you have to think with the current emission friendly government how much is the tax going to rise in the next few years. In fairness the car may not be for you if it will be on your mind. Also the other running costs are high.I don’t think the tax band went up £40 though? I’ve got a Z4M and it has gone up £2.08/month, and monthly is a little more than annual (while it didn’t stop me buying the car, similar to you just now the idea of forking our £570 in a one-er isn’t great!)

The higher tax bracket shouldn't stop you from buying a car for example a Z4M/SLK55 will depreciate at a slower than more mainstream cars which will be more significant than the road tax, also all the 55's I listed are all low road tax.ZX10R NIN said:

What does that mean about the brakes?Is it bigger discs - how much does stopping distance reduce?
They are two piece discs ‘floating’ setup - word of warning though; what you save on tax you will pay for in new discs alone!
