I’m convinced my next car will be a resto-mod 911. Not being a mechanically minded individual but adoring the shape of the older 911 it seems like the best way to get modern(ish) reliability with old school looks and driving pleasure.
I absolutely adore what Singer is doing but unfortunately my wallet doesn’t. So on my short list are 911 Retroworks, Rennsport and Ninemeister.
Can anyone share their experience with any of the above? Or indeed is anyone looking to part with a creation from the likes of the above?
I really like the look of the Retroworks 993 GTR cars.

I’ll use the car 50/50 road and track and would like circa 300bhp so this seems to fit the bill (although I’m yet to enquire about costs).

There's a massive difference in quality of these resto-mods.
A friend used one of the companies you listed, spent £90k, the car they produced was so shocking another well respected specialist refused to sell it. Everything was done with cost cutting in mind, paint was unbelievably poor, electrical works way below standard....the list was endless.
He ended up forcing them to take the car back and got a full refund, but only under the threat of legal action.
Tutthill cars are considered to be among the best of you can stretch to their costs, they are worth the extra.
Might be worth considering a 'built' car rather then commissioning one, your exposure to losing money will be less, however if you're going to keep the car long term that won't matter so much.

Can you let me who the bad actor is here too please. I’m in the market and I know which outfit I like the look of most, subject to a real life meeting of course.
As a ball-park excl. donor car what is a reasonable budget range?. Assume standard drivetrain just refreshed and a new fruiter exhaust.
Thanks in advance.

You’ll need to PM people as PistonHeads “name and shame” rules will mean the posts get deleted. I’ve followed these threads for a couple of years....the only two companies I have never read a bad word about are Autofarm and Tuthill. Funnily enough they are the companies that promote themselves the least ! Actually another company is RPM Technik who do build cars like this (not just their CSR range)....they’ve got a good reputation across their sales and servicing businesses....don’t know much about the cars they build though. One company that I think people have mixed opinions of is Paul Stephens....I happened across the press launch for his £250k Le Mans Classic a couple of years ago...and had no idea what it was...I thought it looked nothing like a £250k car.
You need to go and see half a dozen firms I would say.
This is one of RPM Techniks, and is stunning. It did cost an awful lot though.

buy a 964
these restomods are worthless and shocking bad imo.
the retroworks looks rank.
I don't get the singer hype or the people trying to copy them.
bit like kids modding VW's Golfs !
they are fake nothing cars which are not even worth 50% of the money you paid once you have one you are stuck with it or you give it away.

I searched for a really good 964 C2 bodywork wise and then just modded the car myself with a lot of help from JAZ in St Albans! Interior and car look standard though apart from ride height.

Judging by the photos this looks absolutely stunning..However i'd let someone else pay for the work and buy it off him when he gets bored of it.https://rpmtechnik.co.uk/restoration-project-build...

If anyone knows then please let me know, any details appreciated as I'm looking into sokmething like this myself in the near future.
where are you based ?
my 964 was done by Jaz too and Steve was brilliant
rpm will do an amazing job , both north of London based.
i believe Jasmine Porsche have done some amazing RS reps , not sure if they are resto mods per se
personally i think the key here is knowing what you want to end up with , you need to be able to prescribe what you want very accurately otherwise you'll end up with someone else's idea of whats cool!
and do not expect your money back ! you could easily drop £20k on an engine rebuild.

most of the cars that are for sale at £80k to £120k are shocking bad quality imo would not pay £40k for them !!

agree - it costs to do it properly, i spent £30k on paint and bodywork!
but worth it as its now perfect and i know it is
just don't do it as an investment
cheaper than owing a new macca though!
Nice if done right as you say, VERY few are, not that I would ever have one still.but worth it as its now perfect and i know it is
just don't do it as an investment
cheaper than owing a new macca though!
say £30k on body and paint and people fall over and say "I can do it for "£5k" no need to spend £30k
but the tat which turns up to silverstone classic or Bister scramble is tat, ill fitting two finger panel gap tat with poor cheap paint.
at £200k which is the min real cost of these done right, I would rather a 996 GT3RS and some plush £10k shock for £140k.
Or just a nice oem 72 911S, or at less money a slighty modded 964.
you have really got to want one of these cars at £200k with are bitsa's/ fakes, or this new terms retro mods !!!
the £250k ones well that gets you a real mint well looked after 993 RS in RHD !!!

There’s something about these cars where they have the original interior in them dunno just doesn’t work for me......and some of the exterior details look out of place like the headlights which look quite modern.discuss...............................
I appreciate the allure of an early aircooled look but i'm not sure about these cars. I'm inclined to agree with 911R. They are neither fish nor fowl. Any air cooled 911 can be hot rodded, look fantastic and retain its purity. In terms of build costs, providing you dont try to eek out more power from the engine (not much marginal gain/cost) its the bodywork that you are paying for and that doesn't change the dynamics from the driver's seat. many of these cars are not particularly well modified dynamically, possibly because of the amount already spent on cosmetics. I subscribe to finding a good genuine car and modifying it dynamically. Far purer and a lot less expensive to achieve. It seems bazar to me that buyers seem to flinch at paying a lot less for a genuine aircooled car in excellent condition that a bitsa that someone may well regret has ever been modified in years to come.
