When did you realise it had begun and how has it been?

About 43, and still ongoing, closely linked to a parent dying. It sucks, utterly.

Everyone at my work seems to think I had one at 31 because I bought a boxster.

I bought a Lotus, but it wasn't a crisis. The crisis would be having the means to buy something fun but not doing it because you've settled for a dull life.

Have you bought a Porsche, or otherwise acknowledged that you will never achieve your dreams?

I binned the wife, ran off to Vancouver and moved in with a transsexual stripper called Binky. I had a booze, coke and poppers fuelled 6 months of fun, before it all came crashing down when Binky was deported back to Laos.

I’m glad to report the wife had me back, but only after agreeing to an AIDS test and 3 months in the spare bedroom. Now we’re almost back to where we were before, an endless party of Frost reruns on ITV3 interspersed by a weekly run to Tesco’s and the occasional supper at a local fish and chip restaurant. Happy days........

I could write a chapter on every cliche

33 Haute Route (Ski)

36 911

37 electric guitar

40 ride the etape du tour

41 start fishing (maggot drowning) with kids

42 Start shooting and acquire shotgun certificate

43 Start fly fishing

44 Join game shooting syndicate

49 Start Ski Mountaineering again (had 'retired' and ebayed kit as concerned re risk when kids were small - had to buy lots of new shiny kit)

50 Half Marathon

52 Half Iron Distance Triathlon

I started shooting because I didn't think I'd be able to keep up with physical sports indefinitely and wanted something to get me outdoors but I'm still doing OK from that point of view and skiing harder/better than ever.

38 - Did my DAS and bought a motorbike. No previous bike experience or desire; I was spurred on by a visceral hatred of my commute and a change in parking policy at work. Nearly four years on I'm still loving it. I'm not sure it was a mid-life crisis from my perspective, but it certainly fits a stereotype.

yikes We have a winner! I hadn't read the other posts before replying; that puts replies like mine firmly in the 'hum-drum' category. How did it all start?

Rough patch, joined a gym & beat myself up there. Found it a massive cleanse each day. Just hard swimming, steam room, ice shower, steam room ice shower & out.

Mine might have been brought on (as per a previous poster) by the death of a parent (and grandparents) and other physical signs of decay so I bought an MX-5 and am modifying it biggrin
