Bonnet release stuck on Chimp 400

My bonnet release is completely ceased - any ideas how to firstly release the bonnet and secondly if it's the cable stuck what is the replacement part. Mine's a '97 (R plate).

I assume the cable is not broken....they don't often get stuck; it's usually the latch that is out of adjustment or sometimes the cable stretched slightly.

Try pushing down on the bonnet over where the release catch is, before pulling the bonnet up, whilst someone pulls on the release cable for you. This will often work if the catch is just slightly out of adjustment or has stuck.

Tried - had the wife bouncing on the bonnet - er hmm - I mean pressing down above the catch. There's no movement in the cable at all, I've had the pull out of the mount under the dash and pulled the cable through at the bulkhead to take up any slack but the pull hanle itsel will not budge a mill even though you can rotate it back and forth a few degrees in it's sleave.

I guess the only way to release it is get the car up on a ramp and open it from underneath....

Bummer. That doesn't sound like a fun job!

I'm sure you will have tried this already, but does the cable push in at all?

Sadly no 8-( Also tried a drop of 3 in 1 last night on the pull end to see if it'd free up - it seems firmly jammed for some reason and damned if I can work out why....

I had this problem last year, but eventually by gently pushing in and out it did release and I replaced it. It didn't need brute force, it just released! I didn't completely strip the inner from the outer cable to find out what was wrong, but am pretty sure that some strands had broken and were caught in the sleeve. I was not able to pull the inner cable through the sleeve and replace it even when removed from the car, I had to replace both inner and outer part - bought a spare from David Geralds.

Beware! They are easy to snap if you tug too hard. (I've done it)

(But the dealer, who's car it was, released the bonnet in no time)

OK, will give it a go but there seems to be no in/out movement on the pull handle at all - I can only rotate it slightly.

That did the trick - copious tugging back and forth and suddenly "Pop"!

Looks like the cable is knackered for some reason - I belive it's a Series 1 Landrover discovery part is that correct ?
