I received my new passport in the post this morning and after signing it in black ballpoint pen as instructed - I then see on the back page a yellow label with 'please remove this label'. I think it's covering up the chip, but I don't seem to be able to remove the label without the chip coming away with it.
Any tips on the best way to remove the label without damaging what's underneath it? Also why didn't the passport office remove it themselves?

The chip does come away with the sticker. I think the sticker/chip combo is their internal tracking on your passport through their system, this of course may be incorrect.

Take the pp into your local Post Office and ask them to do it since they're paid by the passport office to administer passports, I guess they'll know

Slightly OT; I did find the whole on-line passport application process very simple and quick, I even took the pictures on my mobile. My daughters passport was submitted and back within 14 days.

They're only paid if you opt for Check and Send.

Have now removed yellow label with chip. I was going to ring passport office and ask them, but it appears lots of people have posted in various forums as to what to do with the yellow label which is so hard to remove from the underlying chip.
Most people would have thought that there would be guidance on this new yellow sticker from the passpot service - especially as it holds a chip similar to which the old passport used to have.
No mention of it.
Thanks for the help given on this thread - hopefully if someone else searches for the answer...they've now got it. smile

Only slightly off topic, but if the passport already has a uniquely identifiable RFID chip inside it, why do they then put another one in to track it through their system?

No wonder passports cost so much money!!

I don't think 14.5 pence a week is that expensive. The only extra cost is the photo and a postage stamp, and they even courier them direct to your door, bloomin good value if you ask me.
