BMW M140i - Big discounts

Hi all,

Looking for a replacement for one of my leases, noticed quite chunky discounts on the M140i. Anyone seen anything better or any comments on the carwow offer below.

Worth looking at pre-reg'd cars as well - I got £13,500 off a pre-reg M240 with 11 miles on the clock... I've taken delivery of 'new' cars with more miles than that!

These cars have had big discounts available for years.

I bought mine 3.5 years ago and got about 23% or so off the list price. They will be trying to clear them out as the new (and inferior) model is due to launch Q3 2019 I believe.

As others have indicated, TRL is the way to go for these.

Worth noting that the second hand value of these cars reflects the huge discounts. I've seen 12-18 month old cars on a forecourt between 20-22K which means the seller would have sold for 18-20K. They are also apparently more expensive to insure.

Yup. Of course it does. You cant have it both ways. Dealers know they need to price used ones cheap otherwise people will buy new. Also loads on the market too.

BUT - what can you buy at the same money new? And what 5 door hatch holds its money these days anyway?

I'm budgetting for 50% depreciation in 3 years, so around £14,000 returned. I'm perfectly happy with that.

Cheapest 2 year old 5 door auto Shadow edition is £22,407 so well on track for that.

Not a Shadow Edition which makes it worth a bit less (reflected in price already).

Its not an LCI.2 car so doesnt have the revised dash, has the older iDrive (though the S/W is upgradable), doesnt have rock guards (yes, thats a thing apparently), doesnt have HK, doesnt have Pro Media, 1 years warranty remaining not 3, but looks a good car for the price.

You pays your money....

Pure chance, I went for a walk with Mrs Timbo and drifted through Chandlers forecourt and there it was... got a reasonable trade in on my Merc as well.

Its a convertible and list with options was £44545 and I got it for £30875 - so 30% off.

We are being slightly cautious when it comes to these, there are some great discounts on pre reg cars but most dealers have stock and pipeline cars that work out much cheaper if you are financing via PCP du to added support.

I saw an example of this just last week with someone that took one of these late last year on a PCP via BMW but needs to sell. 68 Reg car with less than 3000 miles, best offer so far is £21,000, now £4K wrong on the finance.

Trying to sell 6 months into a PCP deal will have the same outcome (or worse) with any new car? Especially on a low or no deposit deal like I have seen these offered with.

Depends on the spec of the car but that could easily be a car that listed at £40k losing nearly half its value in 6 months. That’s pretty spectacular. It’s a fair observation to make that the massive discounts on these cars come at a price and it’s worth wondering whether everybody purchasing for 25% off list realised that the depreciation curve is most definitely tied to the discount price and that they really aren’t getting the deal of the century.

I'm always wary that the RRP's are artificially inflated just to enable big banner value discounts
