997.2 GT3 RS overrevs...
Discussion
I received the following DME report on a 997.2 GT3 RS that I am considering purchasing:
Range 1: 1550 / 448h
Range 2: 633 / 383h
Range 3: 394 / 383h
Range 4: 269 / 214h
Range 5: 15 / 88h
Range 6: 0 / 0h
Operating hours counter: 449h
The OPC says that the range 5 overevs are a glitch and should be ignored (fair enough). They have also run a compression check and as the range 4 overrevs happened more than 200 hours ago, are prepared to warranty the car. Even so, and I appreciate this topic has been discussed at length on numerous occasions but what would the consensus be on buying this car? It has obviously been driven hard, as it should be, but what is the likelihood of trouble in the future..?

Wouldn’t worry me. Just get a leak down test for peace of mind. I’ve buzzed GT3 engines in cup cars to over 11500rpm and they held together untouched for the rest of the race season and still delivered lap records. The best engine that I’ve ever driven and that includes the Cosworth DFV and derivatives. The revs on the readout represent a few seconds of running - either a missed gear or downshift too early. The 996/7 GT3 engine is a race engine in a road car. I really wouldn’t be concerned.
