Good day to you all. Im a bit late to the Avios party, but ive joined now, what tips do you have to boost my points tally?? my wife is buying a dental practice and most places she will be dealing with take amex cards, is it worth purchasing an Amex corperate card? they give 1.5 points per pound spent. Many thanks.
1) Get a BA AMEX Premium card (you get extra Avios & a 2-4-1 voucher after a modest spend)
2) Fly BA
3) Fly BA enough to get a Gold card
4) Book holidays through BA
Seriously you really don't get huge amounts on the cards compared to actually flying with BA, put the above together & you can quickly rack up the miles.
So book a holiday with BA on your BA AMEX as a gold or silver card holder you get:
1) Base AVIOS from the AMEX
2) Extra AVIOS on the AMEX for spend with BA
3) AVIOS from BA Holidays
4) AVIOS for the flight portion of the BA Holiday
5) Extra AVIOS on the flight for being Gold or Silver come to that
6) Book a car with Avis & AVIOS on that.
These things soon start racking up. I have over a milllion of the things & a couple of 2-4-1 vouchers. They mostly come from flying, you need to spend an awful lot of money if you are just using cards to get into the world of lonhg haul business & 1st flights with AVIOS.

It doesn't have to be quite as much as you think. If you fly long haul & in business it's a trip every other month or less depending on you routing, If you fly Qatar business transiting in Doha, then you can pick up a over a third of the points in a single trip.If you are flying economy yeah you won't get there!
I use KLM for most of my travel but have to use BA on occasions when flight times don't suit. I've only had 4 BA flights this year and I get my points automatically converted when filling up with V Power every week. My total tally in the last few years of Avios is 11,700 points. I might get half a night in a hotel paid for but that's about it!

Saying that miles did send me to JFK First, for free once. So the plan works.
As mentioned Headforpoints is the site to read. Some very good guides. In addition to the amex card I also have a capital on tap card (master card) which is good for earning points where amex is not taken. On the premium card you get 1 avios per pound spent and you can use it to pay your corporation tax, VAT and paye/nic which soon adds up. There is also a 20k sign up bonus for spending £5k in the first three months.

Some see it as a badge of honour, some see it as a token of sadness. I think I am on for Bronze this year, and I've flown more than I ever have!
I actually quite like it! See I'm a bit odd. Long haul, gives me a chance to relax, no disturbances, no emails, no having to talk to anybody, kick back & be served food & drink. Internet access on a plane...argghhhh hell. People will be able to contact me. Most airports are relatively painless to get through. I think I did 50 or 60 flights last year, this year will be well down on that. I assume you meant your dad has lifetime gold, which is 35000tps, and is consistently a lot of flying!!GT03ROB said:

He tends to be the same, he like to read a book and listen to music on a plane. But the time away from home was the real issue for him. He Used to do a few flights per week, often leaving home on Monday morning and coming back on a Friday evening. I think you're right on the lifetime gold, it's been over 25 years of a LOT of flights. On the plus side, family holidays were always good, with an abundance of miles and hotel points going.

You could also consider buying Avios from one of the New York based wholesalers, couple of times a year they have offers when the price is 1p per mile, miles are credited to your Executive account before you make payment, I've used one a few times.
