Hey,

I just read Ferrari are trying new aero today when the get the practice laps going again.

How often can teams change their cars throughout the season, and are they limited to changes.

I don’t know why, but I thought they couldn’t change once the season starts.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Aero changes happen almost every race. Large packages 3-4 times a year. Mercedes are masters at this and are already on their 4th aero package not including testing

Ok cool.

Could a team make engine and body changes... i.e - are there limits?

Body ie aero is fine, engines only a certain amount and if you do more there’s grid penalties because you have to change more engines than you’re allowed

They can change as much as they like outside of the engine and gearbox. Some changes would require the chassis to undergo crash testing but that's just a matter of time and money.

One of the many, many things wrong with F1 IMO. They spend millions developing a wing and then scrap it for a new design a couple of races later which also cost millions. They just don't live in the real world.

They can change whatever they like, with the exception of the crash structure, which must be tested before the season starts.

Theoretically, you could introduce an entirely new car halfway through the season (Bodywork-wise)

Same with engines, but you are limited to a certain number to be used within a season, unless you're willing to take grid penalties.
