Hi all, long time lurker here finally looking to unleash his inner petrolhead. Since my mx-5 na which I greatly enjoyed, I had the pleasure of driving nice but boring company cars (520d, a5, x5 25d, etc). Now is finally the time for a fun weekend car. Ideally it can hold the 2 5y old monsters in the back but not a hard requirement.
What it should do:
- put a massive grin on my face everytime I drive it
- hold enough luggage for a long weekend away
- ideally be below 4l displacement given high Belgian road taxes (but for the right car...)
Contenders I had in mind so far: 997 S2, f type v6s, ...
I do not care about daily drive-ability so eg rather rwd over awd.

I drove a cayman 2.7 today which was nice but just did not do it for me. Super efficient and composed but ultimately too good I guess (true character requires some flaws?). Tvr tuscan would be my dream but given few local specialists and lack of technical knowledge/time I probably need to rule that out.

Counting on Pistonheads’ guidance to help me further orient my search!!

Try a Cayman 981 GTS before dismissing the Cayman.

The MX5 is a difficult car to follow, they are very good.

I would have said a Maserati Granturismo but with your displacement requirements I'd say a Lotus Evora/Alfa 4C/Alpine

The granturismo sounds very appealing but would it not be absolutely ruinous in terms of maintenance / stuff that can go wrong? If that were no issue, potentially I could live with the high taxes even...

The 4.7 is a very reliable & robust engine parts are sensible for this car my running costs varied between £800-1400 a year with an Independent specialist. I'd see if you have one near to you so you can get an idea of running costs.
