Breather hose problem
Discussion
This is a new one.
For the last couple of weeks this hose keeps coming off from the flame trap. Doesn't matter how tight a fit the jubilee clip in the morning, it is off again after a day of driving.
The only thing I have changed recently is running the dizzy directly from the plenum on full vacuum. All the breather and vacuum hoses around the plenum are fixed with jubilee clips. I did take all the pipes off a couple of months ago when I changed the dizzy and to tidy up all the wires that run around that area but cannot see what that could have to do with this.
Is it possible that pressured air from the rocker cover is pushing the hose off, because there is a blockage further down. I can't think of any other way for it to 'work itself loose, but how can those hoses get blocked?
The flame trap wire mesh and the mushroom foam were both replaced last summer.
The car is currently running as sweet as a nut with no shunting, smoking or excess fuel consumption so I don't understand why this hose is not staying on the sleeve.

Also, silicon hoses don't grip as well as rubber.
It'll be worthwhile thoroughly cleaning the inside of the hose as well as the flame trap spigot with a degreaser before you clamp it up.
Overtightening will also help it pop off as it is such a short spigot.
This too although I have never had this issue on the same arrangement and mine is not under any vacuum It'll be worthwhile thoroughly cleaning the inside of the hose as well as the flame trap spigot with a degreaser before you clamp it up.

I'll give it a degreasing clean but how tight is too tight?
I had tightened it to a point where the clip had just got tight, then the second time using a ratchet and the third, to the point where the ratchet could not go any further.
Each time the hose was seated down as far as it would go and the clip was under the lip.
There is not a large ridge around the lip of the sleeve, but you can feel a slight rise with your finger near the top. I have driven the car for 10k miles and this has not happened before and now it's constant.
I thought of trying something to add friction such as sanding the sleeve and the inside of the pipe.

Use a narrower hose clip, a jubilee clip for this short barb is s
te anyway and you don't need or shouldn't need to have this connection tight it's under no pressure or shouldn't be , like I say check for restriction
So what do you think is pushing it off all of a sudden?
te anyway and you don't need or shouldn't need to have this connection tight it's under no pressure or shouldn't be , like I say check for restriction If it is indeed under vacuum, surely that will suck the pipe to stay on?
I opened everything up this morning, no blocked pipes and clear at the sleeve going into the plenum.
Cleaned the flame trap and hose, and rejigged the other hoses at the other end to add more slack to the main hose as it goes over the coil. Doesn't matter how tight the jubilee clip is on the flame trap though, the hose can still be pulled up so I added a cable tie around the top of the hose to hold it down.
Hopefully, even if it tries to vibrate upwards again, the cable tie will keep it held down on the flame trap sleeve.
