997 gts convertible pdk

I’m thinking of getting a 997 gts convertible and have a few questions
1. Is this the right time to be going for a gts (will prices drop more)
2. Are they a good investment?
3. Would a coupe be a better investment
4. What are they like to drive (I only had a quick test drive so couldn’t get a proper feel for the car)
The car is intended to be a long term car doing about 3000 miles a year
What would be a better Porsche for up to 60k
I know I’ve gone on about investment but not a rich man who can afford to lose 10s of thousands of pounds on a car and I know nobody can predict the future but I would like the general thoughts on the 997 gts thanks

They’ve come off about £10k from the peak I would say.

Honestly don’t think they’ or any other modern Porsche is an investment at this point (I own a Manual 997 GTS coupe)....I think the GTS that will hold its value best is a manual coupe...because it’s a relatively unique package. Fanstastic cars to drive....really nicely set up chassis for country road/ B road driving...the engine is really nice.

If I was you I’d have a look at the original Boxster Spyder as well as a safeish place for your money within budget.

If you’re worried about investment, then I wouldn’t be spending ~£60k on a 997 GTS.

Instead, spend less half that amount on a 996 C4S, and bank the rest in an ISA

I had one for 2 years and loved every minute. Great connection to the car, goes like it should and enough old school analogue to provide endless fun. I’d only buy one that has passed opc warranty test and has had full service including the important 6 year pdk etc done. I’d check brakes front and back as expensive relative to Carrera . Enjoy, soft top goes up and down on the move and you get to hear the engine.

Your a long time dead so get the car you want, tge gts with chrono pack has all the Motorsport gear mapping and launch control, less sound deadening also. I think as we get more emissions deep the 997 gts a good buy fun wise and money wise. Get n there....

Looks to be only three in the OPC network, so the rarity will always help with residuals. There were an awful lot of white and black ones, so that's reflected in what's available and the prices. Agreed a manual Coupe is the choice, but a GTS Cabriolet will be more desirable as a PDK (IMHO).

Also agree that an OPC warranty package is well worth it and will help when it comes to move it on in a few years time if you keep it up (which is worthwhile).

Be wary of buying a 996 C4S because the chocolate engine will probably implode after five-miles of ownership and you'll be asking for the money back out of the ISA

If i was spending about £60K on any used 911 i'd get a 996.2GT3..In fact someone posted on another thread recently a Basalt Black 2004 with £30K miles..Metzer engine and very likely to appreciate in value over time.IMO.

You cannot go wrong with a 997gts but has to be manual, forget the 996c4s as above is a no no and could end up costing a small fortune if the engine lunches the ims ( had mine go at 13k on a 2003 car) If I was after soft top motoring then as above cannot go wrong with a 987 spyder fantastic car but if the roof bothers you then a standard 987.2 boxster S at nearly half the price would be where the smart money goes!
Just to mix it up a bit a 981spyder might also be a good choice if prepared to spend a little more money one recently sold for £63k so may find a nice one for around £65k post summer?

I was in the market for a Boxster 981 GTS PDK and ended up purchasing a 997 GTS Cabrio PDK - at the time the prices were similar and I just felt the 997 was "more special" (even though I find the 981 a better looking car). Don't think you can go wrong with any open top Porsche at that budget, just make sure to hold on to something that looks like it's been cared for.

I personally don't think it's a good idea to treat cars as an investment, mainly because it will make you never want to drive them - and when you do, the paranoia of the added miles will eventually ruin what would otherwise be a special occasion.

Would you be interested in a 2010 C2S coupe by chance? 12,000 miles with full OPC (Chester) service history. Huge spec to include PDK PSE Sunroof Sports Chrono etc etc. Owned by me from new and yes it is a garage queen! Good opportunity I think.

Yes I had to keep her happy she wanted a white car but out of the 2 at 911 virgin this was just a little bit better condition and I wanted the alcantara interior plus it has a sportier exhaust than the standard one so it sounds a little bit better

Very nice! I was at 911V on Saturday and bought a 997 manual cab, collect on Monday. A bit cheaper and older than yours but I was very impressed with the set up and the car. Enjoy!
