Anyone looked at/know about the R8 Spyder at The Garage Car Sales for £53,495 on autotrader? Full Audi Service History looks to be a reasonable price when looking at market. Only just started to look at R8s, I hear the V10 is a great engine. Need to take one for a test drive, any advice most appreciated...

I don't know the car or the selling dealer but it looks a decent example. A PPI is strongly advised as common faults such as leaking dampers and troublesome A/C can quickly run up some wallet-damaging costs. You may want to check out R8talk.com as that is certainly the most active R8 forum around.

Thanks Trevor. I've check out PH conversations and prices have maybe come down by 5% - 10% or so over last three years but now look to have stabilised for V8 and V10. Would you say that's fair? I budget roughly £3k per year for running costs of a Sagaris, I was thinking an R8 closer to £5k per year?

I would agree with your estimate of depreciation over the last couple of years and also that prices for earlier cars have stabilized, but I think your predicted annual running costs may be a little too generous. Sure, if you were unlucky and had damper failure or a number of issues it could easily run to that (mine cost me £6K in the first year, but £3K of that was budgeted for) otherwise i would estimate around £3-4K.

Thanks, I did read that dampers can be £1k+ a corner but that a good PPI specialist should be able to flag any issues. I seem to recall the aircon isn't an engine out on the V10 either?

Good to know that I've been over generous. £3k is very reasonable for a mid engined car with such a spec. They've retained their values pretty well when one considers they are 8-9 years approx.. And to have an engine developed for a Lambo is pretty special although I appreciate the bhp has been dialed down slightly for the R8. I've considered a Gallardo but appreciate that the running costs are most likely double or more that of an R8...

Various threads on PH over last few years have been predicting that the manuals will be a future classic. Will be interesting to see what happens to prices once markets become less nervous

Yes engine remains in situ for a compressor change in the V10, but iirc it's still around eleven hours labour. Mag dampers are around £1200 each new or about half of that amount if refurbed through Nagengast in Poland.

Couldn't agree more. I waited a while to get the spec and colour I wanted and I'm just coming to the end of my second year of ownership. First year it cost me not a penny, this year just a preemptive service, it's due a 5th annual in a couple of months time but I've had it done whilst in for the MOT today, which it passed with no advisories.

I bought from an Audi main dealer, mainly for the comfort of the warranty and then extended the warranty with Audi into the second year. I had one claim for a leak from the headlight washer system which was settled without a quibble.

My only negative comment would be the very variable quality of the main dealers, my local dealer about as much use as a chocolate teapot so I use Ipswich Audi who are 50 miles away but absolutely brilliant.

I’m looking for a V10 R8. Can I clarify, should a 2010 car be on variable servicing ? Is it every two years if low mileage ?

My impression is any R8 should be serviced annually, regardless of mileage.

Absolutely. At the very least you should have the engine oil and filter changed.

Thanks both. The one I saw was a 2010, it had 7 services from new. Almost every year but not quite.

whilst its no doubt a good idea to oil change every year, certainly some cars are on variable servicing
