So just weeks after buying a 335d e90 i started noticing a progressive drop in power over a few days. Now at the point where my mates 320d pulls away at the lights cry

Obviously something seriously wrong i borrowed a snap on diagnostic and read the codes.

480A Particulate filter system
481A Particulate filter system
4D00 Exhaust back pressure sensor
4212 Glow Plug Cylinder 1
4222 Glow Plug Cylinder 2
4232 Glow Plug Cylinder 3

Coolant temp at 77c after 20 min drive
Ive come the conclusion the dpf is probably full of soot and regen isn't working.

Should i be replacing the glow plugs and thermostats first or should i buy a DIS cable and software and perform a forced regen.
Also should i avoid driving the car until ive sorted the problem? Not sure what damage high back pressure could cause.
Cheers

E9* 335D is well known for split hoses and leaky seals on turbo boost hoses. Is the problem throughout the rev range or just low down? If its just low down it might be the actuator for the smaller turbo.

The main thermostat and the EGR thermostat both go. These cause the low temp issue you mentioned but I doubt they'll be responsible for the low power problem; the main symptom of stat failure is usually an increase in fuel consumption ( 5-10% ).

The codes indicate it is nothing to do with the vacuum side, or turbo related.

You have a blocked DPF. What’s the mileage? I have managed to get them to regen with Carly, after clearing the glowplug codes, but it doesn’t last long.

Neither do the magic dpf cleaning places. Bite the bullet and get a new dpf, or spend loads fekking around, and end up getting a new dpf.

Coolant temp is low, meaning DPF won't regen. Could be one of the issues? Glow plug fault code might no the glow plug controller itself.

Get the thermostats changed and see what that does. My 335d regularly sits at 90+ degrees during normal driving.

Update!!!
.
Glow plug control module replaced (glowplug faults cleared)
Boost pipe between turbo and inter cooler replaced as it was cracked
Main thermostat and egr thermostat replaced. (sits around 90c now)

Went for a drive down the motorway, my mate in the passenger seat clearing the dpf codes about every 10 secs,
after around 20 mins a change in engine note and mpg gauge drops from 50 to 25

10 mins later the dpf codes are no longer returning, carried on driving for a further 20 mins to complete the regen.

Car now pulls like a train, better than its ever been.

Looks like ive been spared a new dpf for the time being still an expensive week though.

Thanks for help.

Hey Chris

I've got similar faults on my E90 330D, and checked the coolant temp which doesn't get above 70. So going to replace both thermostats.
However, i've also got glow plug activation faults (cylinder 3,4,5,6). My question is did you replace your glow plugs or just the control relay unit?
