Thinking my car ready for Le Mans....

all jobs do! but... wanted to finish the sunday by a run... turn the key... no oil pressure :banghead:
Tomorrow, my garage will have a smile on face! you again, what's the problem?
I believe it's because I driving very fastly last time and there must be some air on the oil pump as I read on the bible, the pump must be priming!
is it a good diagnostic?

Some questions:
Is there really no oil presure?
To diagnose this you must check the following:
Does the oil pressure light go out?
If yes, then its probably either the guage of the sender unit, the pump will be fine.
If the light stays on too, then it's possibly a pump problem.
To diagnose this you should answer the following:
Have you changed the oil since the last time you started the car and had pressure?
If yes, did you reprime the pump?
If you have not changed the oil, how long has it been since you started the car?
If not long then it points to a pump problem (they don't usually drain completely in a short time.
If its a long time since you drove it ( months) then try repriming the pump.
Hope this helps
Andy

Hi Francois, sorry to hear of your oil pressure loss.
Some ideas. maybe:
The distributor drive gear pin has come out, or the drive is spinning on the camshaft
The pressure oil relief valve is stuck open in the pump body
The pump drive gears are broken (hope not!)
The strainer pipe is not fully tightened due to incorrect bolt or the gasket is split
The strainer has a crack or fracture above the oil level line, or is perhaps blocked.
Hope you can trace it and find a low cost solution.

Could well be a stuck pressure relief valve - a known problem with the RV8. Fairly easy to tell, by removing the retaining nut on the oil pump cover. The spring and valve should slide out. If not, you'll need to remove the pump cover. Just need to be careful with the splined bolts - a good ring spanner will fit. If you go that far, best to replace the pump gears, valve, spring and if easily available, the cover itself, although the bore that the valve slides in can be cleaned up (very carefully) to remove the cause of the sticking.
Good luck.
Paul.
