Have just sold my Westfield and am about to achieve a long held ambition to own a Tiv. Only problem is finding a good car. Have wasted a lot of time chasing after cars that are not exactly as advertised, and have a space in my garage that needs filling a.s.a.p

Condition is more important than age. Can you find any cars about not needing major chassis repairs? Or cars that have been repaired properly?

Not keen on White or Black and will consider both V6 and V8 models.

So can anybody help please. The withdrawal symptons are kicking in already. Thanks.

There are definately cars out there with sound chassis.

I am sure that one will come along soon.... there are a couple of people on here that are trying to move good cars to new homes...

I know what you mean about cars not being as advertised.... looked at way to many duff griffs before I landed this one.

Am reluctantly about to advertise my V8S due to relocating overseas - I have tried to work out whether it's worth keeping but I'll probably not be back for more than 4 weeks a year (max) and the storage costs outweigh the benefits.

Brief details below -

1992 TVR V8S
Is taxed until the end of the year, MOT'd until end of September
Has just had a service, and I have spent about £3k on it in the last year on stuff like having the chassis checked, cleaned, painted and rustproofed and having a stainless steel exhaust fitted (both done at RT Racing, an independent TVR specialist in Sheffield); apart from probably needing some new tyres soon-ish, I think I have had done everything that needs doing to it.
Mileage is about 47,000 (I think - I'll have to check this tonight, as it has a new speedometer fitted, but I have a letter for the TVR Centre in Barnet confirming the previously recorded mileage)
It is under warranty (with breakdown assistance included) until (I think - again I will check this) until the end of September; this can be transferred on payment of £25; I think it can also be extended, but I have not looked into the cost of doing this.

Will be posting an advert with photos on here sometime this week. Mail me if you're interested.

Cheers,

Martin

Hi fella,

Might be selling the TVR depending on if I need to go overseas. S2 in BRG with 62,000 miles. Full and comprehensive TVR history with all old MOTs, stamps and parts from new. Give me a call/email if you fancy buying or just for a look and a chat. Live in Southampton.

Cheers

Dan

Thanks for keeping an eye out for me and for the info, will save another wasted journey.
Looked at a V8s yesterday. Sounded lovely and generally in good condition, but feel I can do better for the money.

Could easily have bought it for the sound alone.

I don't claim to be an expert but I did look at quite a few before I bought my S3. They all looked shiny on the surface but I did look at a 1992 S3c (£7000 ono) that had serious rust in the chassis outriggers.(one had rotted all the way through). It looked like it had been stored in a pond......All that glitters?

I may well be selling mine, but not until June/July. Thing is, it probably won't be what you're looking for. Right colour (BRG, cream leather), mechanically and chassis absolutely perfect, but bits need doing. Body is good (last owner gave it a three quarter respray after it was keyed), but interior needs a damned good clean and a bit of work (tatty wood veneers on the doors etc), and it has a dropped door. Engine bay dirty - this car has never been detailed!

I shall be redoing the brakes too; no need for it (just sailed through its MOT), but I like to upgrade this part of the car.

Very strong engine with excellent dyno results (177bhp, 195 lbft), and frankly pornographic sound from the stainless sports exhaust.

I'll be sticking her up for about £4500 or so I reckon. Why? Griffith ambitions...

Griffith do I hear?? IIRC you have not passed the big Three Oh?? Another young Griffith Driver to join me!! Mwhahahahahahaha!! Make sure you drive one first. I miss the following things about my S:

Moise
Driver feedback - Griff is much less involving
Less progressive power delivery (weird I know but I liked the kick up the back side, or maybe I'm just getting too much wheel spin)
Absolute waterproofness - Griff leaks like a thing with holes in it
Silence - Griff wistles and has a lot of wind noise
Heater - Griff hear is dire

But the Griff has more power and I like the looks of it better. Plus I have all carbon and SS goodies on it

Chris - I'm 27. I have always wanted a Griff; the S was an impulse buy and, while I love it, I want a V8 and those E-type crossed with Cobra looks that only the Griffith delivers. I love the S and in fact would go for a V8S, but they are pricier than 4.0 Griffiths these days!

I'm after an early 500 if I can find a decent one, failing that a 4.3.

I've driven Griffs before, but I am the other way around to you - I would actually like something (comparatively) more civilised than the S; all that kickback and fidgeting is getting to be a bit much; the S is more lively than my old MGB V8 track machine!

Having driven a V6 and a V8S I think I am leaning towards the V8. A nicer drive all round, less fidgety ride and a sound to die for. All I've got to do is find the right one, but thanks for the post.

V8S Pricier than a Griff?? Really??

I think you'll find it the other way around with the 500 and the 4.3. 4.3s are the really rare ones!! I went for the 4.0 Precat.

Moise can be a nuisance, especially if they chew your wiring. They are often the result of de-catting.
