Hi all,

Last year my odometer (both total mileage and trip meter) stuck when I reset the trip meter. The guys at X-Works sent it away to Speedy Cables for a full re-furb. However, it's just happened again, once again on resetting the trip meter.

Two questions:

1. Is there a trick to kicking the counters back into life again without major surgery?
2. Is it the unit itself or something else that might be to blame? The speedo works fine.

The Steve Heath bible says resetting the trip meter while the car is moving can sometimes bring the counters back to life, but it hasn't worked in my case.

Thank you!

There is nothing conclusive but many have advocated giving the dash a good thumping whilst driving. Or driving in reverse.

Tapping the glass as hard as i dared got mine going again at 100,000 miles.....it had been stuck there the entire time I was running in a new engine (and wanted to know the mileage), and started going again when I least expected it to, about 200 miles later, and didn't want to know the mileage.

A dash thump may well have the same effect. I have in the past had the speed sensor at the diff fail, but you know that is the case because the speedo stops too, as you deduced.

I have now owned my car for 42,000 recorded miles....and about 5000 un-recorded miles. 110,000 will be upon me soon, probably in the middle of the TVRCC track day/Thrills in the Hills weekend. So if you see someone haring around Cadwell park or the Peak District, madly hammering on the dash, you will know it is me. wobble

I ran my Griff for 70k, every 10k I had to resort to the dash thump, it worked for me.

Thanks all!

I've always thought a good thump is the best way to correct misbehaviour.

Even though social services didn't agree that one time.
