What are the most recommended tyres for the E70 if I want to get rid of the RFTs? I have 20s so 275/40/20 and 315/35/20.

I've seen a number of conflicting opinions, I don't want to spend a fortune, but will spend what is needed of course to get the best price vs performance.

I guess this applies to any large-ish SUV so what would you recommend?

Thanks

Any branded version that meets the load rating. I had Scorpion winters on mine, and the ride was so good, i left them on.

Surely there are some branded ones better than others? Noise rating etc?

Also I’ve heard that putting non star marked tyres on will cause the transfer box to whine and shorten lifespan. Is this actually the case in reality?

Yes. Old owner of ours advised that he did it for a few months and made the car make very weird noises, gearbox certainly didn't like it. BMW genius reinforced this, saying there it winds up the gearbox and transfer case, due to the wrong circumferences on the different axles. Always stick to star marked, can affect warranty too if you have a BMW warranty. Saying this, star marked have got cheaper, even for the 20" wheels. 275/40/R20 star marked can be had from Costco for £180 per tyre (these are fronts on 20" staggered M-Sport)

Don’t think so for 20” setup.
