Let me start with my hate for buying footware, I've just spent 4 months replacing a pair of walking boots.

Anyway, looking for an all purpose shoe, light, waterproof, dog walking, driving, wear all day and night, but still smart enough to wear around town or out in the evening. The sort of thing you can take on holiday to save multiple pairs.

This is what I have.

But sadly worn out and no longer made. Any suggestions?

I found these today, but too narrow and I thought expensive for brashers which don't seem to last!

why on earth would you want to wear the same pair of shoes for walking the dog and an evening out?

Yeah I don't get that at all. They're going to stink, be unavailable when washing, wear out quickly, etc etc.

I'd want 3 types - dogs, day to day, evening out.

I do have different types of shoes for different activities, honest.

The pair I linked above could be used for everything if need be. So I could drive all day, walk the dog, wear around town and still not feel too scruffy.

Ideal if you're on holiday. (for instance)

Well they did, I owned a pair, now worn out, and no longer made.

They look good for a night out... if you're going to a soup kitchen.

I think you're just never going to find something that looks good walking the dog in a muddy field, and out in a nice bar or restaurant. You're always going to look over or underdressed in one of them surely.

I don't tend to wear them in mud, serious dog walking I'll wear boots. These though would accompany me into town, 4 miles on a mix of footpaths and grass (with or without dog) bar, restaurant, meet friends, theatre, even a beach if required.

If such a shoe no longer exists, sobeit. Shame.

I'm lazy too, don't even like laces, these pretty much get used for everything.

A sensible suggestiont they look decent, if only they did a shoe version. If DMs were waterproof a stylish design would be ideal.

Where's the upvote button?!

I agree entirely, it's not possible, but if forced I would opt for a decent pair of brown brogues and dubbin them. Or whatever the kids do with them these days. Some sort of fancy spray one presumes.

Would a pair of R M Williams boots come close? Comfort Craftsman are pretty versatile.

I had a friend who lives very very simply. Everything he owns can fit in two backpacks and he spent his life with great friends he had all over the globe. Things are just not important to him.

He is an average looking bloke but women are drawn to him like you wouldn’t believe! He has a degree, professional qualifications and is very good at his job, although he is just as likely to take bar work, factory work or anything else that grabs him at the time. He works for a few months each year and travels the rest of the time and his life just seems so simple, happy and rich in experiences that I often feel quite envious.

He has one pair of shoes, a bit like the pair you have now, and it all he needs.

I totally get where you are coming from.

Whilst not the only pair of shoes I ever wear, I do spend an awful lot of time wearing brown Chelsea/dealer boots. I think they’re a decent answer to your ‘all purpose’ criteria.

I'm stood in a pair. Not a bad shout, but £££.
