Help me find my next car

Hello everyone, I’m in need of some advice/suggestion from you lovely people. Long story short I’ve been without a car since selling my bmw 320d a few months back and need a car pretty much asap as its driving me crazy. My budget is up to 7k but I’d prefer to spend around the 5/6k mark. Petrol is a must as I don’t do enough miles for a diesel and it must be 5 door and preferably an auto but wouldn’t rule it a manual. I’m 24 and need to keep insurance costs down so not considering any hot hatches or anything overly exciting.

Fabia VRS - not a really a traditional hot hatch, but a decent car. check dsg box has had filter and oil changed (4yr/40k miles interval)

Doesn't the VRS have the infamous VW twincharged engine, known to be unreliable as anything?

Anything Toyota. Unremarkable but utterly reliable.

Have you considered the Hongqi Mingshi?

Ticks many boxes; petrol, manual and proud Chinese Germanic heritage. Yes, not as common in the U.K. as a Focus or Mondeo. But the Hongqi is bulletproof (quite literally if you go for the armoured version) and has a full velour interior, including optional velour dashboard.

If you approach ownership knowing it likes to drink a drop of oil and thus would check the level regularly why would it be any more unreliable as other VAG engines.
Having said that when buying used you are reliant on the previous owner(s) going about things in the right way.

I'd hazard a guess that many of the internet stories revolve around car's who may get serviced on time but don't have their oil checked at any point inbetween - recipe for potential disaster regardless of brand and engine.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta's in Veloce/Sportiva trim are a very good option at this price point they have a decent amount of go & in manual form are easy to find in budget but Auto's less so.
