Dancing speedo

Speedo reading is very unsteady. On a smooth road surface
it can be steady for, say a minute, until a bump or change in surface causes it to drop to zero and bounce around.

Cleaned speed sensor and reset gap to about 10 thou, but no joy.

If the sensor needs replacing how is this done? The lead disappears thro a small hole into the body-transmission tunnel.

Ideas anyone?

Prehaps try it even closer. The sensor wire on my griff comes up through the body and runs along under the center console. On mine there is also a connector there, where I checked to see if I was getting any readings by jacking the wheels up and putting a multi meter across the wires.

Yes try it closer. I replaced mine as it went faulty and at 10 thou the spedo did not start to read until about 40 mph. The closer the better. Don't forget it is magnatised and you might think that it is 10 thou so you want the feelers to be realy tight. I took mine to 5

Thanks for the replies. My speedo only starts to register around 40ish. I'll try a closer setting, if i've got the bottle get close enough without damaging it. Rgds
