I wonder if anyone has had this manufactured or if it is indeed possible to make a stainless steel Y piece to the exact same as the original, including dimensions.

Whilst I’m not doubting the quality of the stainless systems, I personally really like the simplistic look of the original system with minimal joins.

Naturally the manifolds are ok as they look the same, it’s just the Y section that I would prefer to replicate to the original.

ACT sell the original style Y piece. Their “sports” manifolds are different but they sell standard ones with a standard looking Y piece as well.

On their website they only list stainless. However, they obviously have the jigs and they get their exhausts made to order by JP exhausts.
In the past ACT have made bespoke bits for me (well, JP have, but ordered through ACT) so I would be surprised if they cannot knock up a mild steel Y piece for you if that is what you want. Give Tim at ACT a call, or drop him a line.

On another note, why exactly do you want mild steel? If it is cost, then fair enough. If it is for looks then why not get it ceramic coated. This can be in any colour you like. My manifolds are in black so they look original, but I know they will never rust and it helps get heat out of the engine bay. Again, Tim /ACT can arrange this.

I was thinking Stainless steel, but replicating exactly the same as original Y piece as I personally prefer the look of that more than any other stainless ones (which have more joins and slightly different size) I have seen installed.

Having said that, I would like the look of a black ceramic coated standard exhaust like yours. It’s more about making it look sharper under bonnet and rusty looking manifolds & Y piece currently let it down.

I would get the extra manifolds and Y coated, but as mentioned on a previous thread, I’m not sure if they are in good enough condition to do that.

Mine were that thin you could see through them (hence replacing them). I went for the “sports” option, but didn’t want too much bling so therefore had them ceramic coated in black.

Due to the cost of ceramic coating I would be very wary of coating an old set of manifolds.
