New commuter car
Discussion
Good afternoon all.
I'm a long term lurker and have decided to dive in to receive a probable slew of abuse lol. I have just sold my dearly beloved (or not..) Range Rover Sport. I have a current 60 miles round commute involving the lovely British motorway network so a fair amount of stop/start traffic. I'm primarily looking at economy and reliability, with enough space for 4 adults and their associated baggage since I tend to be the one driving places if a group of us go. I have a budget of £5k, and would like to stick quite rigidly to that.
I've narrowed it down currently to 2 vehicles that have <£30 road tax:
Hyundai i40 (Circa 2014)
Honda Civic (Circa 2013)
I've looked at the usual VAG/BMW suspects but they don't appeal (Something about the interiors doesn't agree with me). Manual or auto, not bothered. Petrol preferred but not a must. What are my options? I've gone from Mondeos, through Mazda 6's, Insignias, Mini Clubman, Prius and all sorts else but can't seem to find anything other than the above that ticks all the boxes. Any and all suggestions considered.

Motorway with stop/start traffic I would be look at a £3k Volvo S60 D5 auto instead. Uber comfy, relaxing to drive and great stereo.
Even if you go with something else auto would be a priority for me.
ETA: or a lexus (120 miles a day might get expensive on fuel though). or anything else with a focus on comfort.

At that price I'd be looking for a Mondeo in Titanium X Spec:

With comfort & space to spare these are where my money would be going.
