Scam merchants even in the front garden
Discussion
I was half way through a telephone call from a man in India telling me my computer had a virus when I rudely interrupted by the front door bell.
On answering the front door I was met by a man with who was selling items on his release from prison doing his probation service with a card with lots of writing to prove it. Having said I didn't actually have any loose change in the house he informed me I could do a bank transfer and showed me the bank details on the bottom of the card ! Er, that is rather suspicious. Sorry no. At that point he got rather abusive and when I waited for him to leave didn't and said our entire neighbourhood was a lot of w
kers ( only half true ) and then loitered around our cars at the bottom of the driveway whilst my resolute attitude to this descended into "If you have to damage one of the cars please make it the Yaris and not the MX5 "....... as you do. He then left to pester someone else. He's been around 6 months before as well, must be a long probation service....
Apparently it is a known thing, more info here

I guess the first thing to say when they turn up is that there is no ex convicts probationary service and where did they get their card? It will be a very short sell after that.
Any experience of same?

Yep, I had one a couple of weeks ago. Before he opened his mouth I said "Sorry, now's not a good time" and started to close the door. He got grumpy, made a "Nice cars you've got there" comment and wandered off leaving the gate open.
I hate being disturbed at the best of times but I could do without that.

My retired Dad had one a while back. Answered the door in haste as he normally doesn't bother, but was expecting a delivery. They even have one of those "f
k off we don't buy anything" type stickers on the door.
Guy launched into his spiel. He realised instantly it was a scam, but as he was shutting the door the guy apparently said "you'd shut your door on me when I'm down on my luck"
He still shut it.
