Not sure if this is the right place to post this so feel free to move mods.

A few months ago we needed a new semi-integrated dishwasher. We tried our local electrical store but they weren’t willing to put the woody bit on the front. They said they’d deliver and install it but we’d need a kitchen fitter to finish the job. We bought one from John Lewis who delivered and did the whole job.

Roll onto yesterday and I contact the same local electrical store as we need a new American style fridge/freezer. The model we want is a Bosch costing just under £1700. They took the details, confirmed its available and arranged to call back yesterday afternoon. They didn’t call.

How on earth do these businesses survive?

They don't for very long.

Use AO.com

Stuff in-stock, delivered when promised, installed, old stuff taken away.

I'm sure others will have horror stories, but for me they deserve all the success they get

Been trying to find a specific length HT lead for an imported car

Been to around 15 local motorfactors

Most were simply not even going to make an effort as their computer didn’t like the ref

Only 1 actually put any effort in (govinda autos) sadly he couldn’t help

Went online had it next day

We use local butchers, farm shops etc and now even started using a local chap who can sell PCs and kit. Will see how that goes, but where possible we always try to support small local companies.

Absolutely agree. Prices are always good, usually next day delivery & take the old stuff away. When the fridge or washing machine packs up, don't want to be waiting days for a replacement.

I ordered a tumble dryer through them late one Saturday evening. First load was on by Sunday lunchtime - unbeatable.

We try to buy as much as we can in our local high street.

The council have just increased two hours parking from £1.20 to £1.80

I've already heard a few say they'll go to Tescos now, out of town one.

Only problem is they didn't turn off the hot water feed. The new washing machine only has a cold input. It flooded my kitchen

Yep. My local council reduced the High Street waiting time from 2 hours to 1. In 2 hours you could get your shopping without worrying about the time, not so with 1 hour. Result is that people shop elsewhere.
