Is it still a big thing?

ABC1s and all that.

It feels to me that society is so diverse and fragmented it’s close to impossible to put people in these type of boxes.

I used to work in a business where the marketing department paid fortunes to get to certain groups.

Is it still prevalent?

I was contracting at a big automotive company and all of the permanent staff (office/engineering side)were sent off to one of those “You’re a this this this this person” courses.

Dread to think how much money was wasted, but they all said it was bks.

It's not about putting people in boxes rather than treating them as individuals. It's about at least attempting to recognise diversity by treating the population as a set of different groups rather than as one big group.

That sounds like corporate marketing speak.

It’s not though - the Myers Briggs approach is actually really useful and the 16(?) groups are quite useful to know and then be able to tailor future needs to

That's precisely what it is. But it is a genuine if very crude attempt to recognise that not everyone in the market is the same.

It’s basically if you have an opinion about someone then don’t ever tell anyone else and try and nullify that opinion.
Life at work is a minefield now.

I would agree. I've found MBTI very useful in understanding my own personality.
