Peterborough banned driver had 51 points on licence

I'm thinking the justice system isn't working here, and in similar cases...

A "prolific road traffic offender" pulled over by police was driving while disqualified and with 51 points on his licence.

Absolute maximum is 6 months imprisonment .. But even for this guy will get mitigated in some way. A guilty plea is realistically less than 4 months then there is still the possibility of CER. So before these points fall off - plenty of ways to collect more (Unlikely had insurance here for example so probably 6 more points coming his way) and will get an even longer ban from the Disqual driving. If he is happy to go away for a couple of months, every time the police catch him, the reality is they can drive.
Courts in theory, can also order forfeiture of the vehicle, in most cases even if not belonging to the defendant but they have to look at the totality of the punishment if they do that.

There's no information in that story as to how he was allowed to accrue 51 points on his licence, and still drive before being disqualified (probably the usual bollcks about hardship, blah, blah, blah - To which any magistrate should say: "Tough!......You should have though of that before committing traffic offences!" )

And the fact that he continued to drive after being disqualified shows complete contempt for the Law!

I suspect all that will happen (as per usual! ), is that they will extend his disqualification period, which he will still completely ignore and carry on driving.

The article makes a big deal about his vehicle being seized - So what?

All that will happen is he will get someone to get it back for him, and then he will carry on driving!

What should happen is, if he owns the vehicle, it should be seized and sold off by the Police, leaving him with no vehicle to drive, and he should spend time in prison!

The system is being abused. Surely any excuses or mitigation should stop at 12 points and the chap should start afresh without accumulating more points? If he carries on gaining points, the excuses ought to be worthless. It would seem that the only punishment that might work would be a short holiday.

He could quite easily have amassed the majority of the 51 points after being disqualified by carrying on driving.

Send him to Manchester. It appears they take driving whilst disqualified a little more seriously up there.
Gaol time is needed in these cases.
