Add non resident named driver ?

I have a relative visiting from the US. They moved about three years ago but prior to that they have always lived in the UK. Question is what is the easiest way to insure them to legally drive my car whilst they are here? Adding a Named driver I presume requires a UK address and residence ? Is far easier when I visit them as their insurance policies are based on the car not the drivers.

Unless they are returning home to the USA every night and coming back every day, use the address they are staying at in the UK. Yours if that’s where they are staying.

The only sensible and meaningful answer is to phone your and other insurance companies to explain and get quotes.

I got a reduction of premium/rebate for adding my brother-in-law from overseas for a month to the policy.

I tried to put my wife’s sister who lives in NY as a named driver on one of our cars as she visits regularly and to save her hiring cars

Problem is she only has a US licence and they won’t accept that .. any EU or UK is fine but for some reason a US licence is no good

I had relatives staying from New Zealand.

Assumed I could add them to the car policy with no issue.

No. Would only cover U.K. residents.

Tried a temporary cover insurer. Same issue. They hired a car. I have no idea why they would not do it.

I had expat friends visit a couple of years ago - I had no problem adding one of them as a temporary additional driver.

This was with Swinton (actual policy with Ageas I think).

They are however resident in the EU - whether that makes any difference or not, I'm unsure.
