Found out the neighbours a wrong 'un

We've lived here about 4 years now, there's an old couple that live across the road. They seemed pleasant enough; old boy sits in his chair in the window watching the world go by, regularly waves at my 5yr old son, they take parcels in for us when we're not in, we exchange Xmas cards, etc.
So last night my other half starts freaking out over a video she saw on Facebook that was posted 10 months ago, shared by an old school friend in another part of the country. It's an old couple outside Burnley Crown Court and the people filming them are heckling the old bloke and shouting "Paedophile! Paedophile!". I look closer and sure enough it's the old couple from across the road, then, just to put to rest any doubts it is them, the hecklers start screaming their names.
Turns out he was convicted of abusing young children last year and the day the video was filmed was the day of his sentencing, he got discharged due to having dementia (supposedly).
Bonkers.

If you look on the bright side, at least you know where the local paedophile lives
Not a nice position to be in having got on ok with them in the past. I imagine it’ll be awkward trying to avoid conversation and preventing them taking in post etc for you. Plus the fear of your partner (rightfully) getting very angry over it and confronting them.

Saw one of those videos on Facebook where they catch people grooming children online. Watched one, the bloke lives about 5 doors down the road. He's a proper prick, couldn't be less surprised. Apparently videod himself masturbating and sent it to what he thought was a 14yo girl.
What happens to these people after they've been outed? Chris Hansen style of arrested and questioned, or just a video circulating social media? Sounds like all the above cases have also been through the courts but with the amount of fake news on social media, you've gotta wonder, when you see a post being shared 'exposing' someone when it's simply a bloke's picture, whether it's just some poor innocent sod. Same with the 'Beware in Chavington Road, Erith. Eastern European men tried to get my kid in to the back of a Transit van'. Had these scare stories back in school before the days of Facebook. All a bit Brasseye.

An oldish man who lives in the next village to us is a registered sex offender yet until recently was a local councillor. It surprises me, and a lot of locals, that someone who was convicted of downloading child pron and has publicly stated that he did nothing wrong can represent the public. Fortunately he no longer sits on the council following a campaign to spread the word about him.

Don't think anybody local had any idea about him, seems they moved from Burnley to our town at some point in the 90s. The video was being shared by mostly Burnley locals and it was pure fluke my OH saw it as her friend who shared it lives in Birmingham.
Here's the video:

I can't look over at his house now without hearing those shrieks of "paedophile!" in my head

We at work recently found out we have a convicted sex offender working with us.
When it "got out" the general manager briefed the ops regarding what would happen if anyone dished up any retribution and was called a number of things along the lines of "nonce sympathiser" etc. It's making for awkward relations at the moment.
He's not ashamed and has tried to justify himself to the lads on the shop floor. Thankfully I don't have anything to do with him really but it doesn't make me want to engage with him any more than I already have.
OP, hopefully you can keep your distance without any unpleasantness.

I don't know how I'd deal with this tbh.Bonkers.
I suppose my first question was, when did the offences take place? Was it decades ago and he was convicted on an historical case? I'm just thinking if that was the case is he actually about to groom or actually harm any children anymore due to his age.
You could, COULD! next time he gets a delivery for each other mention something along the lines of "Thanks for doing this all these years, but I've found out a little about your history and I don't think I want to continue contact" Then get a sign on the door asking for deliveries NOT to go to number XXX Be a grown up about it.
If you have children that are of an age that they can understand, ensure they know not to visit the guy across the road or go into his garden or house under any circumstance.
I get the impression your other half wants these people driven from their home or worse. Which will only end up coming back on her and making your lives difficult. Which doesnt help your family.
By rights, there's paedophiles everywhere. You just know about individual ones until these things leak. So long as your children are away of "stranger danger" (if they even teach that anymore) they can minimise the risk.
On a related note, if you get a mob turning up to burn the blokes house down it will affect your property value and possibly increase your home insurance. And because a large number of vigilantes are stupid, expect the wrong house to be targeted too!

I've since spoken to his daughter in law through Facebook and the other half has spoken to the uploader of the video.
From the uploader we found out they're historical offences of abusing young girls and boys aged 3-8 (or thereabouts) and that his wife used to be a childminder. He abused the kids she looked after, the uploader being one. This was over decades.
The daughter in law said he abused his own granddaughter (her daughter) between 90s-2000s, they only found out in about Oct 2016. She said she remembered us moving in and knew exactly which house we lived at, and that we probably saw them visiting until they found out.
The family and the other victims have been warned by the police about them uploading that video and not to do anything about him (one wanted to have flyers printed and posted around our neighbourhood).
He's on the register and apparently it wasn't publicised because of his dementia (seems they're sceptical about the latter)
